I don't think so. I hope it goes back to service soon. Not over Iranian airspace though.

Correct. My pilot friend who flew Boeing for many years think if it's only because of the engines a few week visit to flight simulator for all pilots and the ability to shut down mcas and the plane is fine.

Unless there are other flaws then the engine and mcas system... That is what we shall learn soon.

I read an article that mentioned that everything began to go Airbus's way was after Boeing "bought" McDonnell Douglass. The later was much smaller but seems their engineer took over as they were cost savings bullies who got their way... Boeing has never been the marvel of technology since. At least like it was from it's inception to the end of the 90's.

They did not wait. If you read the linked article, they issued a statement accusing the US/west of "waging psychological warfare against Iran."

I agree Iran is obfuscating now, but I don't blame them for wanting to wait for a full investigation. Let's see if they come clean in the end.
Meanwhile, let's remember the Fog of War works both ways:
The US shot down an Iranian passenger airliner in 1988. Shit happens in wartime...

Yes, they did finally admit they shot down the Ukrainian plane. And of course they blamed Trump and his threat to blow up their cultural sites. But at least they had the balls not to chicken out a few minutes later, like one of our brave posters did here.

Yes, the university students are always the hope, for the US in the 60's, Tiananmen Square 1989, Hong Kong and Tehran both this year!

Yes, viewed from the eyes of the Iranian people in 1980, the US support for the deposed Shah of Iran and refusal to turn return him to Iran to answer for his despotic rule was symbolic of western hegemony. Spy agencies of the US and British in 1953 helped engineer the coup that consolidated the Shah's power that would guarantee access to vital Iranian oil, but also consign his country to decades of corrupt, brutal dictatorship.
To the people of Iran, the students takeover of the US Embassy in 1979 was an heroic act. Unfortunately for them, the religious government that replaced the Shah has been similarly oppressive.

Of course, it was one of the most heroic acts in the history of mankind. Or maybe a close second to the storming of the Russian embassy in the same Tehran in 1829 when the whole staff was savagely murdered. Including the ambassador Alexander Griboyedov, a famous poet well known to every Russian school kid. Was that done by students too?

You are referencing back to 1829? Nobody in the world is holding a grudge about what happened in Tehran the year 1829.
I suggest we stick to current world history within our lifetimes. The reason Iranians began hating the West is the history I referenced above. The best way to deal with one's enemies is to understand them.
Anyway, we are way off topic. This is my last comment about Iranian students.

Hey, Cruiser,
When will we be able to start flying the 737 Max again? 2,800 workers were just laid off today, from a supplier to Boeing. The US economy is going to suffer more. My retirement portfolio needs stability!

The US economy is going to suffer more. My retirement portfolio needs stability!

Still there is no official (FAA) date set yet, some airlines are talking about returning back to flight around March, April 2020
if things stay the same, still have not seen any final fix, test results transcripts pointing to the results of the fixes except
what we know that the fixes should have been. (Reading input from two sensors, comparing data inputs within 5 degrees and
make MCAS follow to some pilot / manual inputs for elevator control.

BUT, new set of rules from FAA and other country regulators, like Canada, stating that there will be no flying unless the pilots
go through the simulator* and experiment/learn the new systems.

* Because of this, the Canadian company CAE, who makes 737 simulators, their stock jumped because of the potential demands,
sales of new simulators (In case you want to add this to your portfolio) Ask in house expert Sharky for approval buy or not ???

Yep. Imagine at 20 million a piece CAE decided back in november to produce simulators without customer's demand. Highly unusual as this is always build on demand. Smart move. I like the fact that CAE's president pilot his own plane on his business and leisure travel.

GMA your retirement portfolio has seen non stop high for what 10 years now? It wont go another 10 years. There will be a major correction. No clue when but maybe it's time to take out a big chunk of it? Ask around but not your broker! haha

Invest now in CAE? And then sell in March or whenever the first Max takes off?

Not entirely true as the lifetime of a simulator is almost as the same as the actual plane itself where new upgrades, new pilots, routine
pilot "Refreshing / training" different failure mode training goes on all year round for around 20 years.

Had I bought CAE stock when I was working there when they were trading for $5.00, (Now $30.00) I wouldn't have added this stock to the
"Another boat missed" category.

Thanks for the insights, Cruiser
Well, Jalimon, I have tried to time the market in the past, and each time it has been consistent with my overall strategy to buy high and sell low. Which is why I am not in the financial services business! lol Actually, I might be close to retirement, and am rebalancing my portfolio this year to be less heavy in stocks
I agree with sharkman: buy/sell/buy/sell
By the time I buy shares, it's usually time for the smart money to sell lol I think I missed the boat on CAE

Right here

wow 6x increase
how about this one
priceline came on the market march 1 1999 $96 a share
1 month later it was $974.77
By October 9, 2002, however, it had had fallen. In the aftermath of 9/11, Priceline's stock fell from nearly $1,000 to only $6.60 a share.

then it soared again
Imagine this, if you had invested 10,000 shares at $6.60 a share = $66,000 at todays value of $2,086.90 x 10,000 shares you would have $20,869,000 or a profit of $20,803,000.00
how does your 6x cae stock look now :)

Well GMA in 2001 I sold a triplex with 15k profit. I was tired of loosing 100$ a month because I could not raised the rent fast enough. Had I kept it I would be able sell it just over a million today. Funny to think about that now... When I am not crying!!!!!!
