Honestly unless you're a relentless consumer of returnable bottles I don't understand why people bother at all. I feel like people never put a price on their own time and consequently undervalue themselves and the use of their day. When I lived in Vancouver you had to go to these bottle return depots as well. They stank of sour beer all the time, they were frequently busy with the shopping cart can and bottle collectors which sometimes meant a long'ish wait and at the end of the process the average person would leave with somewhere between $2-10 after saving their bottles at home for a month. I always figure my time was worth more than the hassle of saving and returning the cans and bottles for the pittance I received so I'd just dump then into the recycle bin or leave them in a bag outside for the nearest "collector" to pick up. After doing the experience a couple of times I just said to hell with it because there was no value to me in participating in the system and I had better things to do that offered a greater return on my time.
It adds up especially at 10 cents and with the cost of groceries. I live in an apartment so I cannot just leave things in the curb, they would end up in the trash. I thought about just throwing them in the trash I think I will do just that. Loosing too much.
