The Vancouver Canucks have just agreed 'in principle' to a deal with goaltender Corey Schneider, which would pay him $12 million for three years. Luongo trade imminent?

In other news, the habs have extended Petteri Nokelainen's contract by 1 year at $575 000.

Update: the deal was made official earlier today.

From Damian Cox of the Toronto Star:

"If FLA wants Luongo, here's part I don't get. They'd be essentially teling their own hot G prospect, Markstrom, he can't start for 4-5 yrs."

"Odd little stat. Schneider seen as a sure thing. But he's actually played fewer regular season games than James Reimer."

Brodeur to test the market?

Martin Brodeur, who hasn't had an agent in 15 years or so, has just hired Pat Brisson to represent him. Negotiations with the Devils haven't been going very well & there is now a chance he might test the market as a UFA. Likely destinations could be Florida & Tampa. The Leafs? Who knows. However, i'd rather have him with the Leafs for a year or two than that overrated & overpaid Roberto Luongo.

From Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun:

"If you're the Leafs and suddenly Brodeur is available, you have to look seriously at signing him. Far less complicated than Luongo."

Travis Moen & the Habs have just agreed to a $7.2 million contract for 4 years.

First Nokelainen, now Moen.

"Bring on the Cup!!"

Well, it's official, blue chipper Justin Schultz is now a Free Agent and free to sign anywhere he likes July 1

Signed in Edmonton despite Burkie making a big pitch - dont blame him to turn Blowhard Burke and the Leafs down (who would want to play for a team that has missed playoffs seven straight season - soon to be eight)

Whats a matter boys....ghg, you mad cause Justin didnt even allow the habs to make a presentation for his services? And you 2 cairo, it was nice to see Schultz eliminate the red wings after holland called looking to set up a meeting earlier in the week :thumb: Leafs already have Gardiner as the young PMD stud and with Schultz that would of cost his developement somewhat, although it would of been nice to have him, but I am fine with him going elsewhere especially since he went west and not to the Sens or Rangers.

Colby Armstrong could not stay healthy and I wish him well, he seems like a great guy but just injury prone.

I couldn't agree more with Iggy. Right on all counts!

On another note, i'm curious to see if the Red Wings & Habs will make any type of splash today. My guess is that they have to if they want to remain competitive. I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit misses the playoffs this season, on their way to a new decade of decline since the retirement of their leader, Nicky Lidstrom.

As for the habs, it'll be the same ol' story again: ride the season on Carey Price's back, hoping for the best. I think they'll manage to squeak into the playoffs, and that Mike Therrien will finish the season as the team's head coach (a rarity in Montreal these days).

I also have a feeling that everyone's favorite punching bag, Scotty Gomez, will spend the season in Mtl. I can't imagine any team trading for him, nor the team buying him out. A possibility would be him winding up in Hamilton, but why? They could have done it last season when he was more expensive than he'll be this season.

I would be ASTONISHED if Detroit misses the playoffs, in spite of losing the second greatest d-man of all time. They still have Pavel Datsyuk, the most skilled player in the world...and perhaps even more importantly they have Ken Holland, the second greatest general manager of all time.

Kenny Holland is SO good that he could probably even get the woeful LEAFS into the playoffs if - Heaven forbid! - he ever replaced the tragically incompetent Brian "Never Met a Meal He Didn't Like" Burke. Of course, to do so, Kenny would have to replace the ENTIRE Leaf team starting with its captain, the reigning two-time most overrated player in the NHL as voted by the players themselves.

Thank Heaven that the NIGHTMARE of Kenny leaving Hockeytown and going to Hogtown will never come to pass!

Right: Armstrong (or should his name be Armweak[/U]?) is just like Connolly, Lupul, Reimer, the Monstrosity, Jason Blake, Kessel, Van Riemsdyk ... and on and on and on. Burkie's favorite players are always the injured, the injury-prone, and the feeble. The more damaged the goods are, the better Burkie likes 'em!

When did this become the Nhl offseason Free For All threa? Why cant you ever post normal in non S**T Disturbing threads cairo? Your hate and bias is causing you unneeded stress which one day will lead to a stroke or a heart attack.

Army was good and worth the contract Burke gave him, when healthy, unfortunately that was maybe 10% of the time and was something nobody could of predicted when the contact was signed.

Not much of a free agent pool this year but some good role players after the big guns of Parise/Suter... and possibly Marty B.

No personal attacks please Ig - they are not permitted, as you should well know by now. And as I've said many times, it's Mister Cairo (complete with the appropriate capital letters).

As for your concerns for my health, thank you, but my health is excellent - as it should be, since I eat wisely, have worked out two hours a day for the last 33 years, and am completely relaxed physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Karma - and a healthy lifestyle (as well as the wealth that I have achieved thanks to Joe T. and his amazing predictions) - means that I have zero worries. Add to that the fact that I am a Wings fan, and I am one fortunate dude! As for you and your Leafs: cheer up, you can't win 'em all.

Happy Canada Day and enjoy your summer - the 2012-2013 season is not far off. May the Wings and the Leafs both continue in their usual paths.

The Monster is now a Red Wing!!!

Leafs reject Jonas Gustavsson has just signed a 2-year deal with the Wings worth $3 million. Congrats Detroit! :thumb:

In other news, Martin Brodeur & Zack Parise will indeed test the free agent market after discussions with Lou Lamoriello were unsuccessful.

As for Mathieu Darche, he got the door slammed in his face by the habs, who offered nothing but a pay cut & a two-way contract. Very disappointing for such a classy individual.

Colby Armstrong is now a Hab!!!

Leafs reject Colby Armstrong has just signed Les Glorieux, signing a 1 year contract with the habs. Habs fans will love him! Congratulations Mr. Bergevin! :thumb:

Armstrong will switch his name to Brasforts at the midway point of the 2012-13 season in order to appease the local fans & media. ;)

In other news, former hab media darling Guillaume Latendresse signed with the Ottawa Senators, while Zenon Knopka agreed to a contract with the Minnesota Wild. As for Ray Whitney, he'll play next season in Dallas.

Latendresse had expressed his wishes to play with the habs again, but apparently, they didn't want him back.

Brad Staubitz signs with the Ducks!!!

Tough guy Brad Staubitz chose to leave Montreal & signed with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. I'm surprised the habs didn't try to re-sign him, but maybe they did & he simply wanted to play for a better team who wouldn't use him strictly as an enforcer.

Will Montreal try to sign an enforcer? Jay Rosehill maybe? Matt Carkner? George Parros? Maybe a trade with Toronto for Colton Orr?

In other news, Carolina gave Jordan Staal a $60 million, 10 year extension. Pretty good for a guy who spent his entire NHL career playing on the third line in Pittsburgh.
