I hope they're ok emotionally. I feel that would be traumatic for some people. Maybe the most relevant visualization of Montreal would be a data visualization of hotels. Like price patterns of SW friendly vs non SW friendly establishments.
Unrelated but personally I'd love data on which neighborhoods has the most dog-friendly landlords. I'm sure this kind of data would be very hard if not nearly impossible to accurately gather but it would be so interesting. Haha

I wonder if the type of hotel and the fact that they require a key has a correlation. I’ve been told years ago that Marriott was very anti SW but I’ve found some of their hotels don’t require a key for the elevator

If I could I would. There are some places in the world where dogs are more commonly accepted by landlords. One apartment in the northwest had a 140 foot tall dog poster on the building when they were opening to advertise how dog friendly they were. I hope you become a property owner one day!

I believe different Marriotts are different. I don't think any entire chain is super against it. On Tryst some people mention Marriott in their bio

Yeah, I find myself staying a Marriott-owned properties (W, Honeyrose, Renaissance, Fairfield) more often than not when in MTL and I've never had an issue but I'd defer to the ladies on what they've seen overall. With a keycard elevator hotel I've met people downstairs and one-time left a keycard hidden just away from the lobby and texted them the location and they said they felt like a spy retrieving the microfilms. They required a full debriefing lol.

I like to have the man wait for me in the elevator and climb in like we’re in some spy movies. Not say a word until we’re on his floor

Or

Meet outside and walk in as we’ve known each other forever

I love it, I actually became friends with a cashier during COVID because that was basically my only way to see real people :p

The hidden card thing happened once and it gave me a full blown panic attack LMAO I was quite literally crying and shaking when he came downstairs to pick me up. I was embarrassed because what do you mean playing spy triggered a panic attack?!?!

It was one of our very first bookings - it's been years and we still see each other, but he hasn't tried hiding the card since. We figured out it's easier to start at a restaurant instead and simply meet there. Haha !

Ruh roh. To clarify: She suggested I do this and we were in pretty constant communication and I was 2 min away upstairs so there was just enough subterfuge to be fun/non-threatening I guess. No one was gonna get nabbed by the KGB (hotel employees) on my mission lol. We went to dinner after all the classified information was revealed, so that was fun.

It will be very hard to find such data as key in data analysis is data quality and data standardization. The variety of means and platform to list properties, the way it's written, etc. make the data aggregation APITA.

On a side note but still about dog there tons of dog related information: Dog friendly things

What do do you have?

@Julia Sky

The info I do have after googling. You probably knew some of this already but it's interesting. Even if you knew all of this maybe this will help a lurker who owns a dog.

"My Pit Bull is Family's National Dog Inclusive Rental Database: This is a national database, it's a crowdsourced effort. It includes properties that allow dogs with varying restrictions. It's a "leads" database, so you still need to contact properties directly to confirm."

"The Montreal SPCA website often has tips and resources for finding pet-friendly housing, including advice on preparing a "pet resume" and lists of Facebook groups dedicated to pet-friendly rentals. They also advocate for changes to the "no-pet clause" in leases."

"Start with Rental Websites: Use the "pet-friendly" filters on major rental platforms.
  1. Filter by Location/Neighborhood: Consider areas known for being more pet-friendly or having access to dog parks.
  2. "Pet Resume": As suggested by the SPCA, create a "pet resume" with your dog's vaccination records, training certificates, and references from previous landlords. This can make a big difference in securing a rental, even if a landlord is initially hesitant.
  3. Direct Communication: Always confirm the pet policy directly with the landlord or property manager before signing any lease. Get it in writing on the lease itself.
"
