I listen to local radio a lot (in my car, while doing the dishes etc) and out of the blue on Cogeco 98.5FM (one of the most listened to stations in Mtl), since this morning, there are ads about how buying 'sexual services' is a criminal offence. ''Let's stop sexual exploitation'' is the last line. Ads are ''sponsered'' by the gov of QC...No mention of trafficking, no mention of minors, just buying sexual services in general...yikes

Where did this come from all of a sudden? Who is the ad targeted to? Normally I would blow something like this off, but I listen to that station a lot, and to be reminded and threatened like this every 15 minute cycle is a little disconcerting to say the least. Is this another conservative Lego thing? Is it a precursor of something larger afoot? Or maybe I'm a little paranoid :)

Tried looking up what government body might be at the origin of such an ad, but did not find anything.

Sting operations to follow. Be careful people. La CAQ is hungry for votes. This is political.

not very reassuring lol

i wonder if there have ever been ads like this in Toronto or Vancouver

Its probably like the ads during Grand-Prix week, nothing much ever comes of it, but I just find it strange that all of a sudden there are these "PSAs"

Grand prix is known to have a lot of offers including underage and forced prostitution.

This time, we have a desperate government that is very right leaning, who is very law and order prone.

They are going for issues that go for universal approval.

This is one of those issues.

That being said, how many people here honestly try to hobby "ethically"?

How many people visit those Asian or east European providers that don't speak French or English? Do you really think they are here in this line of work by choice?

How about hobbyists that buy from heavy drug users that are sp to sustain their habits?

Or young girls "barely" legal?

Encouraging hobbying with specific types of sp does give legitimacy to lawmakers, and discredits providers and clients who should be able to participate in hobbying freely.

I also listen to that ad yesterday... as I was on my way in car to visit a SP.... strange feeling I must say (bit of fear, questionning my habit and guilty). And I agree with vwjf for trying to choose ladies that seems to do it by choice as professionnal who care for their job and custumer, instead of some less into it who could be exploited wich I do not suscribe.

Once in a while I read a review written by a man that says he saw a woman that couldn’t speak French or English. I just find it so weird

I’ve only been in that situation once with a client that couldn’t speak English or French, luckily I could speak a little bit of his language but it was still extremely awkward

I think many people have been ignoring the facts... the law changed, its application has been gradual but Longueuil lead the way with their john school program targeting regular Johns looking for services from adults in french or english.... the chief of police from Longueuil is now the chief in Montreal. We have communist in power in Montreal and Legault's team eager for some wins in the news papers to pull the boomer vote..... We'll see how it plays out, but I would assume that if adds are out now, actions on the ground will follow and by April or May they'll open up about what actions they have taken in the community. That's my reading...

I agree, watch out guys. This ad makes me nervous. Maybe it's time for a hiatus until it blows over.

I think it has something to do with the "Semaine et journée nationales de la lutte contre l'exploitation sexuelle des mineurs"

Ah, ben oui!

wishfull thinking guys sorry..... john school is real and was not targeting sollicitation of minors. Only of adults because if you sollicit minors they put you in jail where you belong..... The publicity on the radio was not about minors either. Your life your choices.
