What is true is that the system enpowers individuals to comply with it independently and voluntarily as opposed to having it collected at source in the form of a VAT or some such.

That is exactly what I meant, everyone that is earning money is *already* supposed to pay taxes. Escorts, mechanics, everyone. They already believe that people will follow the law. They don’t have to find a way to collect, the way already is in place.

Right. Now go back to my comment and see the "figure out how to consistently collect..." part of it.

If the government made it legal they'd do it in such a way as to regulate that legality, by making it legal only in certain establishments where taxes could be collected, for example, and by having legal providers register themselves, license themselves (all at a cost of course), mandating tests, etc etc etc., creating a whole infrastructure that doesn't exist now that would exist solely for the purpose of protecting the public health (the political reason) and to collect taxes (the actual reason). Everyone working outside the system would be working outside the law and subject to the harshest of penalties (guffaw) once the were arrested and convicted by the Sex Police, which of course would also have to be created and for which the taxes would be required to pay for it (Think language police but they wear garters). You, Giselle my darling, could be responsible for creating an entire new sector of employment opportunities that wouldn't all be governed by AI. You're already my hero!

While the wording is moslty directed at underage sexual exploitation, there is some vague wording about sexual services in general peppered in here and there. Since it is the "National Fight Against Sexual Exploitation Week", I will expect to get these ads on a yearly basis every first week of March from now on (coinciding with spring break lol).

I think Montreal is a "sanctuary city", where the mayor, chief of police and the DCDP have other fish to fry. Don't believe anything will change on the island in the short term. So might be a false alarm, but you always gotta be on your toes.

There is no such thing as sanctuary city. You are deluding yourself. The SPVM often do sting operations for johns with fake street workers. It’S a matter of resources, but you can bet your ass that if the provincial government wants numbers related to prostitutions to show that they are doing something, the political will trickle down to the streets pretty fast.
