Trump has given both Canada and Mexico the ultimatum to control the border and stop illegal immigrants and illicit drugs like fentanyl if they want to avoid tariffs.

In this case yes. He is right to tell Canada and Mexico to get its borders under control. There are hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers crossing illegally to get free stuff. Their numbers has skyrocketed since Trudope was in power. It is costing taxpayers hundred of million of dollars while the cost of housing is going up due to rapid population increase not to mention the jump in crime. A sleazeball like Trudope will not respond to be asked politely, Legault has asked him to cut it so many times yet Trudope refuses to.
Of course nobody wants tariffs or trade wars especially not with our largest trading partner.

In the US, they are legal under PL 170 and Immigration law. They present themselves to border folks, register and are given a court date to present their refugee or asylum claim, and many seek work. We desperately need more immigrant work in the US and to pay taxes and, especially, social security taxes since it is short of funds. Biden, with R's agreement, had a border deal to fund new judges, border folks, etc., to address the problem, but Dictator Trump ordered it killed in Congress so he could blame the Dems for not doing anything. He prefers chaos vs getting things done.
The illegal drugs are mostly coming in via the busy US border crossings from Mexico, Huge lines of cars and limited resources to search cars, need more drug dogs etc, but reports are close to 90% of drugs come in via the legal ports of entry not in non-controlled areas.

Having said that sometimes wielding a big stick is enough to force change that is necessary and beneficial for those who share common borders and economies.
What the tariff stick will do and achieve is force our leaders here in Canada to make the necessary changes to public policy that has allowed fentanyl to be manufactured here in Canada. Are Canadians aware that we are the largest manufacturers of fentanyl in the world? It is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Canadian and American citizens annually. Last week, I lost a close personal friend to a fentanyl overdose at 58 years of age.
The tariff threat will also force our "woke" leaders to address the porous border and insane immigration policies that have festered for the past 10 years. We have not upheld the integrity of our once-great immigration policy. Does anyone recall the point system in Canadian immigration? That was a sensible immigration policy that worked.
It is time for us as Canadians to address these issues that have festered for too long at our expense. Let's clean up the mess and look towards a more healthy and prosperous future for us all. The big stick approach advocated by the new Trump administration has not gone without notice by our leaders, they are already demanding to speak with the new administration and they have not even begun their mandate.
