I don't think that most of the reputable ladies who offer deposit do it just "because".
At least if I am talking for myself, it came from the need for safety, both in terms of physical safety and financial safety.
Before I started requiring deposits for new lovers, I would take appointments, block off the time for him and send my address. Quickly, I realized that a lot of men out there are just collecting women's addresses for God knows what twisted reason. That coupled with the violence against sp, being murdered, assaulted. Made me quite fearful. Then on the financial side, if I block off a time for you, refuse other appointments to honour yours and you are a no show, I didn't just "not make money" I lost money. When it happens a few times a day, it starts to become a big burden.
Does the deposit fully solve the issue. It does not, I still have no shows and cancellations with the deposit, but at least, for the weirdo who goes around and collects addresses, it will be a deterrent, same for time wasters and I get a built in cancellation fee. On the other hand, it is the client's job to verify if the person he sends money to, is reputable (reputable sp spend thousands of dollars to build and maintain their websites, online presence) , and when you get scammed, review the person so that no one else gets to live the same experience.
