Nopes. Ppl still believe there is a difference between the left and the right when there is none. Both are authoritarian and both impose too many taxes.
There have been national candidates from third parties a few times over the last several decades. They always fail to win the presidency but they can sometimes determine an election result by draining away votes from either the Democrat or Republican candidate.
The founding fathers wisely set up a system of government that does not require just two parties but one that encourages the forming of coalitions (and thus two main parties). In a big, very diverse country with many competing interests and a federal system that divides power among different levels and parts of government, a two party system works well and has served the U.S. well since the Constitution became effective in 1789.
There is a new poll almost every day about Biden's ever worsening poll numbers. The worst news for Biden is that most independent voters (66%) disapprove of Biden--it's bad for Biden because he won a big majority of independents in the 2020 election.

It's revealing to see how Joe's approval rating has plummeted and his disapproval rating has soared month by month in 2021. At the same time those who say they are are "unsure"about him have steadily decreased, indicating that once people get to see him in action, they don't like what they see.
Biden sucks so badly that I actually think there is a shot someone can beat him in the Democratic primaries. I would not mind seeing Manchin do it, even out of spitefulness, if he were not such an old far himself. At a minimum, Biden will be strongly challenged in the Democratic primaries, if in fact he decides to seek re-election.

The real and sad moral of this incident though is how modern Republicans continue to show their "decency" by picking a moment where the president was chatting with families about Christmas to truly "own" Biden. That's how Trump deriders really took him down--not with getting people to the polls, but infantile ways to say "Fuck you" to Trump's face. [/sarcasm]
I guess rising gas and food prices, wrecked careers and businesses, support for criminals and domestic terrorists while demonizing a majority of your citizens based on race and religion, severe military blunders and what appears to be total war on your traditional values may put people in an "indecent " mood.

Article doesn’t mention that the caller was a Republican, a Trump follower, etc. It does mention that the presidents approval rating is in the shitter.
He should not be allowed to run for re-election under any circumstances and the Democratic Party either has to ask him nicely to not seek re-election and head back to his ranch a la Lyndon Johnson, or if he refuses such request, then prop up a candidate who can be supported to defeat him. Just about any other Democrat would be better. I would vote for Hilary Clinton over Biden.

Almost none.
The US system was designed assuming there would be no parties. (Remember, they were making up a lot of this as they went along so it is a mix of idealism, practical deals, and guesses about what would work.)
They quickly realized they were wrong, but the "Era of Good Feelings" made it look like it might work out that no parties were needed and so while they fixed a bunch of their mistakes in the first 10-20 years, they never fixed that one.
Anyway, the result is that the system pretty much locks two parties in instead. In one view, that isn't too bad in that basically it just means the parties are the final results of the coalition building you would have in another system - just before the election instead of after.
The whole thing makes third parties incredibly hard to pull off. The last time one existed and actually survived was when the slavery issue split the Whigs up and the Republicans took over. (But notice it went right back to two parties.)
What usually happens is a faction that could make up a third party either tries and fails or just threatens to try and then one of the two existing parties absorbs them. Sometimes that faction takes over.
For instance, Wallace makes a third party run in 68, wins some states, and that opens up the door for the Goldwater wing of the Republicans to make a move to grab those voters. They do and gradually take over the Republicans.
So could you get a "centrist third party"? Maybe, but it wouldn't last.
First of all, what policies would it actually have? "More money for rich people" is unpopular on its own.
The "sensible centrist" is loved by the Mainstream Media but they don't really have a coherent world view other than "these people disagree with people we don't like".
Secondly, even if there is such a group, it would need a regional block to make any indent into power other than throwing votes away in a close race. Is there a natural power base regionally where they could flex some muscle?
Thirdly, one of the other parties would have to split to give them a chance to get anywhere.
One argument has been that the Republican party embraces white nationalism and antidemocratic ideals as their central goal more and more and the other Republicans split off, but what would be the proportions?
It isn't going to be 50/50. What happens to the smaller fraction depends on who they are and where they are located.
I have little hope that your "non-nutcase" group would be big enough to cause a shift. I think there are far more White Nationalists. Sure, if after a split it turned out the Democrats were poised to win everything it could work.
Then the whole right wing of the Democratic party could maybe break off and become the new Conservative party and the White Nationalists drop to the fringe. I just don't see it working out that way.

Manchin won't be it as he would be crushed in a primary since most Democrats don't like him.
I can't remember the last time an incumbent President lost in his party's primaries. I think Teddy Kennedy strongly challenged Jimmy Carter in 1980 and might have won the nomination but he had too many skeletons in his closet. The Mary Jo Kopechne tragedy hung over his head like a black cloud, and rendered him unelectable. Lyndon Johnson didn't seek nomination in 1968, fearing defeat due to the Vietnam War.
