It has been almost a year since I had visited Montreal. I need following information on a visit to this great city next week.

1. What is the cab fare from Airport to downtown? Is it still $40 or has it changed?

2. I am staying in hotel du fort. Any general suggestions on this hotel will be appreciated. I had searched for it and my understanding is that it is SP friendly.

3. Is there any place near hotel du fort that I can buy wine?

Thank you!

Most likely cab will be more than 40$ this year

You can buy wine at any supermarket or depanneur but if you are

looking for something in particular you must go to the SAQ (liquor

store)

Cab fare is $35. The fare is posted on the window as a maximum charge from the airport. Ask the conceirge for a liquor store, there are plenty to choose from in Montreal.

1. Cab fare is a set fee, $35 last time that I used a cab from the airport (Nov. 2007). With increased gas prices, it might be going up. Your alternative is the bus which is about $10 each way, I think.

L'Aerobus is now $15 one-way, $25 RT.

Also, technically, it only stops/picks up at Berri-UQAM, though the driver may drop off at some of the previous stops like the Sheraton.

You can also take a STM bus to the AMT train station in Dorval, which would then connect you to the Montreal Metro.

I've yet to figure this out, because AMT's websites are in French only. :(

Thanks for all the replies. I have not tried the bus and may just try it this time. Does the bus has only one stop in Montreal or can I ask the driver to stop at the hotel. Also, how does the pickup work? Do I need have to go to Berri-UQAM area? What are the cross street names for Berri-UQAM area?

In my experience, I found that L'Aerobus will NOT drop you off at your particular hotel. Previously, it stopped at 3 large hotels: Sheraton, Queen E, and Marriott. It's possible that the driver may still stop at these hotels, though officially, only one stop is listed in their documentation.

IF the driver stops at these hotels, and IF you're staying at or near these hotels, then you would just get off right then and there.

IF the driver does not stop at those hotels, then the bus will only go to the bus station at Berri-UQAM, which is the main bus station for Montreal.

When you get off at the bus station in Berri-UQAM, you simply walk across the hall, down some stairs, to the Berri-UQAM Metro station. Then, you would simply take the Metro wherever you need to go. Or, there are numerous cab drivers waiting outside the bus station. In my experience, a cab from the bus station to the hotel cost less than $10.

As for getting picked up to go back to the airport, in my experience, you would be better off getting back to the Berri-UQAM bus station yourself (either with Metro or taxi).

If you have a lot of luggage, I would recommend getting a taxi.
