They got sued by Mattel (the "Barbie" doll) in the early 2000's. They appealed all the way up to the Supreme Court. Mattel lost. A reasonable consumer would not be confused between the two brands

This story is so ridiculous because Barbie is just short for Barbara, which was a popular name in the mid 20th century
