Actually the drunk asshole had been harrassing & verbally abusing McKenna’s mother for about an hour & finally Gavin decided enough was enough!
According to who? I don’t see this version of the story anywhere, I mean, there is obviously some reasons behind McKenna’s behaviour (well, I hope so) but, so far, not much has transpired in the médias.

The prosecution just dropped the aggravated assault felony charges against McKenna. They stated that video evidence showed there was no attempt to seriously injure on the part of McKenna.

Basically the prick got what he deserved for acting like an asshole. Lol.

McKenna is still facing misdemeanor assault charges:
Indeed. Three lesser charges.
Quote: “McKenna still faces three lesser charges: a misdemeanour for simple assault and a pair of summary offences for disorderly conduct and harassment”

LA Kings Fire Hiller After 14 Goals Allowed in 2 Games out of Olympic Break!
The Kings are only 3 points out of the last wild card spot, but apparently that is not good enough for management.

Malkin Ejected For Slashing!
Dahlin cross-checked Malkin from behind, and Malk responded with a high stick to Dahlin's face. Dahlin got a 2 minute minor and Malkin a 5 minute major.

I would not suspend Malkin. He should have a right to retaliate. While 2 wrongs do not make a right, they both got punished and Malkin should be allowed his retaliation.

He swinged his stick to Dahlin’s face intentionnaly. Malkin has been suspended twice already for the same offense, he deserves a suspension, no free pass for him.
Malkin had his telephonic hearing at 6 pm today. The result is not yet known, but the maximum is 5 games, and more likely is 2-4. If it were up to me, he would not get suspended at all and I would give him just the time served already due to his ejection. But it is not up to me. Part of my reasoning is that the cross checking of the skilled players like Malkin, in order to goad them into retaliatory penalties, should not be encouraged. If you allow the retaliation, it will stop the cheapshots that are trying to goad the retaliation.

Malkin Gets Maximum 5 Game Suspension:
"This is not the case of an off-balance player bringing his stick down without control or result of a player whose movements were directly influenced by the opposing player, nor is it the case of a careless player accidentally making contact with an opponent," the Department of Player Safety said. "This is an intentional stick swing that strikes an opponent at a dangerous height and that is delivered with requisite force for supplemental discipline."

well deserved suspension, next time he should know that he better use his fists instead of his stick.

What do you guys think of this knee on knee hit by Radko Gudas on Austin Matthews?
In the real time replay it was too fast for me to tell what happened. In the slow motion replay it looked like Gudas possibly bulged his knee out like a weapon, but I can't say for sure that this was his intention. He may have just been skating this way to maintain his balance.

In this sport you have big men flying around the ice at very high speeds and collisions are going to happen, and when they happen, very often someone is going to get hurt. I really don't know what the NHL is going to do with this one.

From the video, I agree with you. But given the dirty history of suspensions (including a 10-game suspension for a slash to the head), I would say that was intentional.

Hopefully, one day, another player will correct Gudas.

Well Matthew is out for the season with a torn MCL due to the hit, which really sucks for him:
So the question is whether the Gudas hit was intentional, negligent or incidental, and if negligent or incidental, whether he should punished for injuring a star player.

It will be very interesting to see what the NHL does with this tape and if and how they punish.

Well, he got only 5 games of suspension.

Violence is what the NHL sells, so I am not surprised.

Sucks for Matthews, as it may be the beginning of the end for him.

Indeed, and Matthews' agent had some strong words for the NHL:
Judd Moldaver, the executive VP of the.team agency and Matthews' agent, criticized the NHL's decision in a statement to ESPN.

"In light of the obvious severity of the play, I am very disappointed and shocked that the league would allow for such a ruling. A phone hearing and five games is just laughable and preposterous," Moldaver wrote. "While the hearing process is pre-fixed in our CBA, that there was no further discipline is a reckless and ridiculous position for Player Safety. This decision results in a further loss of confidence in the disciplinary process for all players. Players and fans deserve better. The Player Safety Department should be suspended."
