As a Merb oldie, about 20 years ago, there a Merb get together , I forget who organized it, but all the agencies and SPs and Indy Sps as well would get together in a fancy hotel gathering, reserved for themselves. I only read about it, but hobbyists would mingle and get rendezvous visits reserved and mingle. This is what I READ. Was too shy to go to one, but I was wondering if that still happens. Most of the agencies back then have all disappeared. Just asking

It's a lot of work, you need a coalition of the willing, and it doesn't happen for free, so you need to consider where the money is coming from and how much. Not to put too fine a point on it, but these types of things usually have a selected guest list as opposed to being open events too. All to say that there's a bunch of things to consider and a lot of organization that needs to happen, so if you're looking to do one then be prepared to invest a lot of frustrating time and effort

Back in the day, MERB get togethers were a regular thing, but over time, they've pretty much faded out. Sure, it takes a bit of effort, but it’s definitely doable. You just start a thread, book a bar or restaurant, get a couple of agency owners and Indies on board to host, and boom you're set.

What I loved about those meet ups was how so many members would show up, but nobody wanted to mention their MERB handles especially the loud ones. It was always pretty funny. Honestly, if something like that happens again, I'm in.

You make it sound pretty easy! You do it the first time, we'll watch and take notes, then we'll do it the next time. :)

This approach has always worked. The key is to host the event during a time when people are more relaxed, such as around a holiday like Christmas or a long weekend. The strategy involves bringing together an agency owner and their service providers, along with a well known service provider indy who can bring along other independent service providers .

I recall a memorable event organized by Chris from Devilish, where he brought along a group of about 10 girls. He even hosted a contest, although I can't quite remember the specifics of the contest, but the prize was that the winner could enjoy a service from one of Devilish’s providers for an hour. Chris's efforts in promoting his agency and organizing such an event were both impressive and brilliant.

The final step is finding the perfect venue, whether it's a restaurant or a bar. This part is easy enough if you're familiar with Montreal's nightlife scene.

By following these steps, you’re guaranteed to host a successful and lively party.

Sounds awesome! When are you planning to host the party? :)

I’ll throw the party, but only on one condition: I’m doing it with @Flyingby , since we get along so well for all these years. We’re definitely the perfect example of what it means for members to respect each other, no one does it quite like us. Honestly, I think we’d make a pretty awesome team, but that’s just me.

I have a large loft condo in the old Port. I would consider hosting a get together if I thought enough ladies would come pass through to make it interesting.
Say a two hour get together. Wine and appetizers to be provided by myself or other hobbyists. I would just want to control the numbers somewhat.
Certainly a get together at a bar could also be accomplished although how many ladies would show up is the question.

I feel honoured that you thought of me.
But I will let the organization of these events go to those more worthy
@Halloween Mike did a hell of a good job.

I have never been to these events and never will

I did participate in those events back in the days ...
I was there when the ‘Morality Police’ got into the bar to check if any minors was involved … good thing there were no minors with us else we would have been in deep trouble.

If it happens again my first advice for organizers ‘Dont try to recreate what it was', you can’t times have changed .. back in the days we did not have GPS and cameras in our pockets.
For the girls attending… having their faces posted on social media was not even possible .. (circa 2005) InstaWhat ???

My advice for anyone who did attend back then .. dont expect it to be what it was .. kinda like going to see a SP with high expectation … recipe for failure

Most girls know a lot more about us than we think
Merb names
Real names
On linkedin I’ve seen girls look up my profile within a few days after our meeting

Well yes, of course they do. During the screening process for some SPs guys happily give them their real names, addresses, birthdates and photos when they send copies of their government ID. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to get the rest from that, provided the guy has an online presence at all. For the life of me I can't understand why some men are willing to do that, having absolutely no idea what happens to their info afterwards.

Huh... I know these events happened before my times too but there was a huge boom of them around 2013-2014 and times didn't changeed much since that. There was cameras, GPS and all the other stuff that exist today.

Now should anyone expect something as great as the bigger ones then? I dunno. The main issue that we would face would be participation of agencies. I think for a an industry party to be succesful you got to have on board at least ONE major agencies and said agency having about 50% of their roster represented (at the least). Then you add indies and you got a nice ratio of women. But as i said many times, what is the incentive for agencies to participate if they are already always fully booked? Another solution could be to have "smaller agencies" tag along... but in my opinion, you would need at least 10 ladies from various agencies to consider it a succes... But of course im just speculating.

After that you need a good crew to organize and thats another major roadblock.

@Flyingby Well technically it was actually a major failure last time lol. Not sure if you were joking (irony) but it really didn't worked out. That said, to my defense, as i mentioned many times it started more as a "who want to hang with me that night for a few hours" and really grew faster than anticipated. My intention at the start was not to make a "true GT" of old or anything. It was just to meet a few fellow merbites. I supose in that regard it kinda work as i did meet a few new guys but anyway i digress.
