I must admit to liking a drink now and again, and to that end I have several routine categories. If I'm just coming home or wanting something refreshing I will typically either have a beer or have a mixed dark rum drink with Dominican, Nicaraguan or Venezuelan rum. In the evening, as I relax in my club chair in my red velvet smoking jacket with my pipe, contemplating the vagaries of society and the universe at large, I like to have a little tot of some sipping liquor that I can drink neat. I keep a decent bottle of scotch and a decent bottle of cognac but I don't stock up the way I used to and I don't want to drink them every day, especially with what decent liquor costs these days, so I usually keep a bottle of cheaper but drinkable stuff that won't break the bank if I drink it regularly, saving the better stuff for those occasions when something lesser won't do. You can't get much in the way of scotch that's worth drinking for less than $100 a bottle (there's a couple) but I find that finding something in a bourbon that's decent can be had at much lower price point. Or at least I used to be able to. Now of course there's no bourbon to be had, and I'm not a huge fan of rye. I haven't really explored much of the lower end Canadian and Irish whiskies and am wondering whether any of you guys might have some suggestions as to what might be drinkable (not expecting fantastic) for $50-60 a bottle or less.
