Hotels equivalent to Le Germain, Place d'Armes

but less expensive? I'm not usually too fond of the larger chain hotels. I enjoy the smaller boutique hotels, which make a nice setting for meeting friends, but they do tend to be pricey. Are the St. Sulpice and the Vogue equivalently nice to say, Place d'Armes and Le Germain, respectively? St. Sulpice and Vogue seem less expensive at the moment...

Any other suggestions of good value equivalents would be welcomed, too! Thanks for your thoughts.

Auberge du Vieux port ( quite charming, old style hotel near Le Vieux Port)
Nelligan (nice resto with atrium, quite busy , must plan many days before)

St sulpice is also a nice place but the rates explodes with the touristic season
Ex: high season 239.00 cnd, low season ( now) 169.00 cnd

Most hotels located in Old Montreal are considerably more affordable at this time of the year until March. That area is dead during the colder months. I stayed there several times (St-Sulpice, Nelligan, Marriott) in the past and it felt like i was the only person left in Old Mtl. Kind of depressing, to be honest. No wonder i was seeing 3 sps per day back then.

I don't really get Le Germain. What's so great about that place? It looks fairly plain to me. However, i've never been inside the rooms. As for the Vogue, i don't really know if it really should be considered a 'boutique' hotel. It's part of a huge hotel chain.....most boutique hotels aren't part of a chain. It's more affordable now than in the past because (my opinion, of course) many of the rooms need to be renovated. It used to be my favorite hotel, but not since they've implemented their elevator system where you need a room key to access it.

I don't really get Le Germain. What's so great about that place? It looks fairly plain to me. However, i've never been inside the rooms.

I used to stay at the Le Germain all the time, 2nd only to the Vogue. The location is very good, and is SP friendly. The rooms are really nice with extremely comfortable beds and walk-in showers with a glass wall. I have found that SPs like it too. The staff, however, needs customer service training. I haven't been there since I had a problem and was virtually ignored by management. BTW JaJ, the Germain is part off a small chain of hotels.

As for the Vogue, i don't really know if it really should be considered a 'boutique' hotel. It used to be my favorite hotel, but not since they've implemented their elevator system where you need a room key to access it.

I stayed there in June and found myself missing the adrenalin rush of the "knock on the door". The issue of meeting the lady on the 2nd floor can be awkward, especially if there are multiple guys meeting various girls at the same time. That being said, its still my favorite hotel. The staff is great, the regular rooms are very comfortable, and SPs like playing in the jacuzzi They are offering some special discount packages for the off season, like $219cdn including breakfast and valet parking.

The other hotels that work for me are the Marriot Chateau Champlain and Hilton Bonaventure. I look forward to the spring when I'll try the Nelligan, Hôtel XIXe Siècle, Place d’Armes and other Old Montreal hotels.

These are good points. I have met a few ladies in that second floor lobby and each time I guessed right. But what if I had not? I also like the hotel as far as the rooms go and the staff, but there really is no reason for this policy. This is Montreal, after all. Nobody has ever adequately explained to me the reason for the Vogue's policy, although I suspect it is more geared at keeping panhandlers out than SPs. Which is ironic because back in March at the time of seeing the SP who menstruated on my back, I saw a drunk guy passed out on the second floor.

Hmm, a simple, direct question/complaint. Nope, never thought to ask!

I'm planning to come back up either the week before or after Thanksgiving so I may just speak to the GM. I'll let you know what answer I get.
