I guess the organizers saw how quickly the initial goals were being reached and decided to keep raising them to maximize the collection effort. Have never run a GFM myself but maybe a campaign closes to new donations once the goal is reached, so not raising it would mean turning away donations from people who want to help. Even if a goal can be oversubscribed (which I think can be done on GFM), someone may look at it and think “oh, goal reached and then some, guess no more help is needed” and decide not to donate, so it makes sense to raise the goal in that case as well. That’s my interpretation anyway. Can someone explain to me how GoFund operates?
About 24 hours after this thread was posted, the goal was $6k. I was about to donate but did not have my cr. card within reach. Forty-eight hours later, I go to its website and note that initial goal has been reached and it's new goal is $8k.
This time I held back from paying as I found it strange the goal had been upped.
Today, it's goal, having been reached again, is now $15k.
Does someone have an explanation?
