Honestly I feel like they are just trying to scare people. It is serious and honestly I'm considering getting this account deleted.
Or even moving out of Montreal.
But they already had 50 officers, 15 more is a substantial addition but not a huge one... They also said they were still mostly targeting minors.
The police knows that if they shut down agencies and parlors and if they make it unsafe for everyone to work, a lot of women will be back on the street, or will face the possibility of being victimized further. They don't want that. Not because they particularly care about us and our future, but because it's a disturbance for people.
Personally this is my livelihood. These people would prefer someone like me to work minimum wage at Mcdonalds. They make it sound like there are resources for people who want to get out of this business, but that isn't true. There are resources that are supposed to help unemployed people, but all they can do is help you make a CV and browse job offers with you. Also most of us don't want to "downgrade". Some people here who hate indies think this is going to be better for us but that isn't the truth. Also right now, the market is really tough for indies in Montreal. For those of us who don't have other viable options, the idea of working for a massage parlor or an agency can exist as a safety net.
