Eric Duhaime and the Quebec Conservative Party had a historic night and won big. The party won, on the final count, 19 seats. The last time they held a seat in Quebec was over 100 years ago. That is a huge win and a large segment of the population who are discontent with the other Quebec political parties.

What are your thoughts on this massive change in attitude from the Quebec electorate?

Is this just a blip, or is it the beginning of a new thought process and ideological way of thinking for Quebecers?

What do you believe was the cause of this big win for the Conservatives?

Do you think the party will be effective in achieving change? How?

Finally, how will Mr. Carney and the establishment in Ottawa deal with the results of the election last night?

Support for the PCQ is spreading but you can see support is mostly in the Quebec Beauce area. I am not sure why that area Conservative support is high. If you look at the map it is following the same pattern as usual with Liberal support mostly from the Island of Montreal and the Pontiac area. I do not see this changing much for Carney. After the PQ it is the Liberals in second place. Quebec at the Federal level love the Liberals. Quebec is the biggest supporter of the Federal Liberals.

The Quebec Conservative Party will vote in accordance with the PQ to get major policies pushed through that both the Liberals and Quebec Solidaire do not want to become law.

This is the power that Duhaime holds in a minority government. Even though the Liberals have more seats, the combination of the PQ with the aid of the Conservative Party will make the other two parties almost irrelevant. They are ideologically alike, and Duhaime had promised that he would not allow the PQ to hold a referendum.

It is really the Conservatives who hold the balance of power, and Duhaime campaigned on that, asking Quebecers specifically for a minority government, and it is obvious that Quebecers heard that message and bought into it. It has been over 100 years since the Quebec Conservative Party held a seat in the National Assembly. They now hold 19 seats. That is an achievement and the story of the election for me. They have the power and know it.
