If the Greenlanders vote to be bribed and join the USA, it's their prerogative, just like Quebec can vote to separate from Canada. I like the idea of pumping up the Greenland economy.
A) The problem with your apologist take is the US is NOT ruling out military force to take Greenland.

B) This is not about a referendum. There has been exactly zero intentions on Greenland wanting to become a US territory. This is about modern day imperialism. The same Trump who hasn't even bothered with claiming to give Venezuela democracy and has been very focused and vocal about the oil threatened other countries immediately after the Venezuela action. This is the same Trump that wanted Canada to be the 51st state, despite no one in Canada asking to be part of the US.

Now, it's possible some like you didn't know Trump threatened Colombia, Cuba and Mexico immediately after Maduro's capture. It's also possible that because news cycles move so quickly in the Trump era that one has forgotten the 51st state talk from last year. It is impossible to know all that and still insist this is merely some democratic referendum Trump is handing out--impossible.

Trump may be an asshole but he knows to make a business deal. A skilled negotiator.

Ever read his book? Lol

Tony Schwartz did most of the ghostwriting for that book. When Trump ran in 2016, Schwartz made several public warnings that Trump is not fit to be president. I guess when you work closely with someone to write a book, you find out who they are. But from 2016 to 2024 when even lifelong Republicans like Liz Cheney were saying Trump is a danger, parsing simple thought on Trump obvious to functional eyes and minds was too much for millions of Americans.

It might just be that Greenlanders prefer to keep their country with its natural beauty and not have it dug up by money hungry American companies for rare earth minerals.and turn their lives upside down.
In the end who really benefits, the people or the company shareholders.

I am no Greta by any means but neither am I naive enough to believe that these companies and the US want Greenland to make Greenlanders richer and to improve their lives.
There is anywhere from 40 to 50 thousand people living permanently in Greenland. Trump openly stated that he is not going to subsidize any development of the local economy. I believe he is planning to allocate $100K per person including kids together with the US citizenship. They are free to stay put or relocate anywhere anytime they want. I would be curious to see how many people reject this deal.

If you haven't watched "The Appreciate", it paints a very good picture of how exactly Trump thinks. Watching this short movie clip will explain a lot, like A LOT, about his mindset and outlook on the world.

I don’t agree that Trump is a good negotiator or business man but he is definitely a bully and an egotistical maniac who is not above using force if he can get away with it.
Countries and people in general are scared of him and for good reason. he is unpredictable, ruthless and like you mentioned a total asshole who is desperate in achieving something to be remembered for in history.
The people of Greenland have already stated many times that they want nothing to do with being part of the US just like Canadians don’t want to become the 51st state.

I think the whole world will breathe a sigh of relief once his Presidency is over.

I think Mark Carney should make an offer to Greenland lol
Canada had it’s chance with Turks and Caicos and blew it.
We could be now vacationing in a warm tropical paradise with all the benefits of home instead of flocking to Florida, which I am glad people are rejecting in droves.

I have been to Turks and Caicos twice. It's a wonderful vacation paradise, if your sole interest is a nice pool and laying on a beautiful beach and water sports. However there is not much to do there, unlike in Florida destinations. T&C is the place to go if you want to lay on a beach and tan, sip cocktails by the pool, and snorkel and dive and do nothing else for a week. I can use a vacation like that soon.

Turks and Caicos is the location of where I was propositioned by a male escort the only time in my life. I went to the Club Med there with an attorney friend, who is also single. He went scuba diving for the day. We had a plan to meet at the bar of the resort and then go to dinner. While waiting at the bar, sipping a cocktail and minding my own business, a black man sat down next to me. He was about 6'4" and looked like a younger version of Snoop Doggy Dog. He asked me if I would like company. I asked him what he meant. He then asked me if I wanted to have a good time. I then caught on to what he was doing- offering to suck my cock. I told him politely that I am a straight man. I also told him I was waiting on a friend with whom I had a plan to go to dinner. He was extremely polite, and went on his way.

T&C is actually an English dominion and they drive on the left side of the road. It freaked me out quite a bit. On my first visit there (1999) they had a problem with feral dogs which roamed in packs and were said to be harassing tourists. I saw such a pack of feral dogs on the shuttle ride from the airport to the Club Med. Our guide told us the government had hired contract bounty hunters to kill these feral dogs because they were harassing tourists. I don't know if they are still a problem.

Also at that time the government was dumping garbage in a remote location of the island to keep sharks away from the tourist areas. They have a shark problem and a NY doctor was attacked and killed by a shark the month before my first visit. But the divers love to photograph them from their cages.

Really like it as a do nothing vacation destination. Weather is perfect and it almost never rains.

Canada needs Turks & Caicos, imo.

I don't see myself going to the US anytime soon and it be nice to go to a warm beach destination without using my passport and going thru BS customs.

The USA doesn't need Greenland for US security. That is a lie. They already have the access they need. There is actually no reason for them to have it, except - as Trump said in his own words a couple of days ago... owning it feels better "psychologically".

Thank you, attentive person. The US already has agreements with Greenland to build military bases there. The little effort to dispense with rational justification with all these foreign incursions is a measure of the steep decline of the GOP. Even George W Bush's administration routinely denied in public that the Iraq War was about oil. Trump just blurts everything out and nothing happens cuz the guardrails are now nonexistent.

Meanwhile, a bunch of people who voted for Trump over no more foreign wars or nation building don't bristle when Trump says his intention in Venezuela is--nation building. Modern life is the renaissance for stupid people.

I heard a bit of his afternoon speach, he again repeated his hâte for wind turbine (I think it is because it can screw his magnificient hair).
He also attacked the last election victories of Democrat in Californie and Minnesota.
Why his family and top Republicans don't do the good thing and get the world free of this crazy man ?
