I’m looking for some advice from this forum, since everyone here seems to be a master diplomat on just about everything.

I’m not sure if anyone else can relate, but I go through phases. There are times when I’ll see multiple service providers sometimes even daily for a month or two. Then, almost suddenly, I lose interest and can go months without seeing anyone at all.

Is this kind of up and down pattern normal in this hobby? Or is there something wrong with me? It feels like I swing between extremes: all in, then completely checked out and disappearing from the scene altogether.

I’m curious if others experience this cycle, or if there’s a psychological or practical explanation behind it. Any insight would be appreciated.

For the record, I did consult my trusted partner, ChatGPT who is apparently always “with me” during these encounters so he can help write my reviews (blink blink). His very helpful advice was to go see a therapist. Naturally, that’s why I’m here instead, seeking wisdom from this highly educated forum full of experts with honorary master’s degrees in everything.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on whether I’m normal… or just uniquely dramatic.

You should listen to your trusted partner lol.
Other than that I don’t think anything is “normal” about the hobby so I don’t think you should worry too much about it.
Thanks for your advice, my friend. I don’t think it’s a serious problem, but sometimes I wonder whether I’m normal or if I tend to go to extremes and overdo everything I take on, or if I’m just going through phases. I agree with you though: nothing is really “normal” in this hobby. Haha.

Pretty sure it’s normal. The same pattern could be with food, other hobbies or with friends. Sometimes, i have phases when i’m eating lasagna every week and suddenly, i stop eating this dish for 3-4 months. Same thing for golfing or friends i only watch hockey with....

and always remember this : people have a gambling problem only when they lose. If they were to win everyday, would we still call it a problem ?

Simply put this “hobby “ is a dopamine hit. After release you hit a low , how do you compensate. Wanting to Release again. Until like i always say your a hamster in a wheel stuck in a vicious cycle . Like drugs gambling and whatever addiction. Not a healthy habit , shouldnt be long term . What i come to realize mostly everyone who engages in this hobby wether provider client owner all have issues, wanting to admit it or not. Wether traumatic mental or anything else. need to see or are already seeing a therapist . So yes like fradi said maybe chat gpt is on to something lol

Hey guys, thank you so much for your advice. I can really relate to everything you’re saying. As someone who used to have an addiction with alcoholism, drug , and gambling, I think like another member mentioned I’m always chasing that high dopamine rush. So what you’re saying makes a lot of sense. At least this hobby doesn’t really harm me, and I actually enjoy it. Whether I go on a spree with service providers or take a break for a while doesn’t affect me the way my past addictions did.I guess im replacing my old addiction with this hobby.

I agree to disagree, someone or something needs to define “ normal” no doubt this hobby has that dopamine hit. Is it addiction? I would say yes! The same could be said of other hobbies I suppose. I have some very athletic friends who need to exercise on a constant basis. For some 6 or 7 days a week! Same dopamine and endorphins release. They feel a sense of guilt when they aren’t active. I know some will say “ but exercise is good for you”
But so is sex! Possibly the real issue comes from the feeling of guilt that comes with this hobby. Taboo for so many in our society. It’s just not a “ Normal” thing to do. Human addictions in all forms are so fascinating to understand. Getting therapy? I’m on the fence with that one. I’m sure it helps some people.
And some just walk away from those sessions scratching their head. 20 years ago had problems with “ anger management” did a few sessions with a psychologist. It helped at that stage of my life.
