Hospitals across the state of Texas are once again finding themselves buckling under the pressures of an overwhelmed health system, with an average of more than 1,700 patients a day currently streaming into emergency rooms across the state.

About 14,000 of those patients are in Texas -- the highest number of patients receiving care on record. And statewide, nearly 94% of intensive care unit beds are currently in use by COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients.

In a few other states, ICU departments are at 100 % capacity.

YOU WILL NOT DIE FROM COVID!
Ah well, the 4.55 million people who died from it (and in reality you can add millions more), that doesn't count.

And if you don't die from it, you can remain disabled for the rest of your life.

I personally know a 71 year old woman who had covid. Before, she lived alone in her condo and was independent. Today after 11 months, she lives in an apartment in the Hartwell residences. She lives on the ground floor because her respiratory function is very poor. She took several dozen more pounds.

In short, when I see her I hold back so as not to cry.

Unless you are fat, like REALLY FAT, have a comprimised immune system because of a morbidity, you will be just fine. No different than the flus you have suffered in years past. We pushed through, waited it out, rested and then fine in a few days. We even showed up to work!

YOU WILL NOT DIE FROM COVID!
Not true at all ! No one can predict how covid will affect you. I know healthy people who ended up on a ventilator in ICU. Sure they recovered but at what cost. They have a long road ahead of them to recover and they will never be the same. So no Im not interested in catching it even if i am healthy. Vaccine, masks and social distancing is the way to go even if i am a healthy individual. It is dumb to purposefully catch a disease when there is another safer alternative. And btw i've never had the flu nor taken the flu vaccine but im not taking a chance with this one due to its ease of transmission.

This post is one of the most idiotic lies on this thread .

It is true that a large amount of belly fat will increase the mortality for people with severe covid, however the rest of what you said is totally untrue.

I know that. For doctors, they have to take care of everyone even if they are responsible for their condition.
Abuse of drugs, alcool, etc.

Except that alcohol, drugs and other poor behaviors can be taxed or made illegal to try to minimize.

How do you tax 'not taking a vaccine' ? I guess by taking non essential services away

Pretty sure a government powerful enough to take over the entire damn vaccination process (buying the vaccines and deciding who should get them) can pass laws exempting hospitals from being required to admit the unvaccinated. And to an extent, that is already happening in practice by those other than the physicians.

Ok but where does that stop? Let’s say anybody going over the speed limit gets all medical services canceled? If you a bit overweight can they say you no longer have the right to consult an md? It’s would be a dangerous precedent and there would be no limit to limits

It is fascinating seeing so many people choosing to take the word of idiots on social media over that of scientists and doctors. And unfortunately, it is not only limited to our resident crazies on MERB.

I saw a patient yesterday who came in to get the whooping cough vaccine to protect her pregnancy. When I told her she should get the covid vaccine as well to minimize the risk of complications, she scoffed at me.

I told her you've been getting all these vaccines your whole life (including one literaly 15 minutes ago) and this is no different. Hearing that, it was as if she suddenly realised how idiotic her reasoning was.

The damage done by misinformation on social media is truly astounding.

On n'est pas tous friand d'être des cobayes comme vous ;)
Je vous souhaite que cela soit réversible mais je ne peux l' affirmer, demander aux scientifiques qui ont conçu ces vaccins.

I took this comment in the thread that talks about the vaccine passport. It's better here.

After 5 billion vaccines administered worldwide.

Say rather I am afraid of being vaccinated.

I worked for 42 years in medical research, and my ex-partner works in a lab. vaccine research.
Here is the conclusion of your article.

Conclusion: Lipid based formulations can be designated as the current and future generation of drug delivery systems as these possess tremendous potential to bypass BBB and reach the target site due to their small size and ability to dodge the reticular endothelial system. However, these nanostructures need to be investigated intensively to successfully reach the clinical trials stage.

Explain to me the direct relationship with the anti-covid vaccine.

There is little logic in what you write. Take auto insurance for example. They raise their rates if you have a history of dangerous driving, speeding tickets, DUI, accidents etc. Rates may vary based on age and gender. All legal .
Same for health insurance....costs vary based on gender, age and certain health conditions. All based on stats that don`t lie.
Covid kills more un-vaccinated individuals than those vaccinated by a factor of 11. Those are stats and they are science.

Incorrect. If at work a person that is identical to me except for the fact he is 300 pounds, has high blood pressure, diabetic, etc. our health insurance costs are still exactly the same. Pre existing conditions do not determine the cost of medical insurance.

I do not know how it works in the US, but I am guessing premiums will go up as a whole due to Covid ? And even more because of stupidity.

For the individual health insurance market, Cloudsurf is correct (to the extent the extra charge isn’t for a preexisting condition, as you point out). They can charge more for other factors.

But due to the magic of large purchasing pools, the guy you described receives a subsidy by having everyone else pay more.

The U.S. system is made up mostly of large purchasing pools, with Obamacare being one, also.

It works okay if there aren’t too many 300 pound diabetics in the pool, and when the government starts covering the costs of those 65 and older.

And it works if supply of medical services is sufficient to provide for everyone. So there are no hard feelings about subsidizing the fat person.

Covid has strained the supply system, so there are hard feelings toward the unvaccinated, especially if you are in an ambulance after an accident and there is no capacity (and you weren’t speeding).
He wasn't talking about the health insurance market, he specifically was discussing and comparing auto insurance to health insurance and they are two totally different things. I included pre existing medical conditions to futher prove my point as to how everyone pays the same fee. Unlike auto insurance where you can have tickets and accidents that go towards a more costly policy. That doesn't happen in healthcare. So he was not correct.
