A carbon tax provides an incentive to both energy producers and consumers to reduce energy use and to shift to low-carbon fuels and renewable energy sources through investment or behavior. And, yes, I while I have studied economics, my immediate concerns are for our dangerously warming planet.
But the tax does nothing, we are advancing but without India and China assisting all we do is cause hardships on the low income earners. You do not seem to grasp that nothing Canada does will alter climate change but mainly cause hardships on the less fortunate.
The Trudeau Liberals just spent over $275,000 on their Inflation Summit plus $149,400 on hotel rooms, $46,200 on catering, $11,500 on private security, and $8,800 at a single restaurant. Is that why we pay all these taxes like the carbon tax so the government can live like kings? That is enough to make most peoples head explode. No one is entitled to anyone elses labor. The government does not want to curb its spending so they must invent ways to scam people to add more taxes like the carbon tax. As the government cashes in, it does very little to curb greenhouse emissions as the stats proves, what it does is it impacts the low income people the most by making them poorer. The carbon tax makes the cost of everything like food and products more expensive.
Maybe in your small circle but most are having anxiety and hopelessness due to government policies that made everything so much more expensive. Most are concerned with how they will pay their mortgage and buy food. The homelessness in Canada rose by 46% since 2018. Carbon taxes is putting fuel in fire.
This does not make any sense, why charge taxes in the first place only to return it? I seriously doubt this is true, I have seen my taxes increase and the price of food increase since Trudeau's carbon tax while MPs give themselves big pay hikes. No matter how you justify it, the carbon tax is a sham. Instead of a carbon tax, why not give tax breaks to households and businesses that take measures to reduce their carbon footprint? And I mean an actual tax cut like income tax reduction and commercial tax reduction for businesses? Not subsidies. Of course not because the government cannot curb its spending, politicians are living like kings. Since the early 20th century, government spending has exploded. For most ordinary folks and even businesses, when the money runs out you slow down your spending. Government instead increases their spending and adds more taxes and they got to find new ways to justify and scam people to collect more revenue, enter the climate change hoax to add more taxes.

There have been extensive studies and articles published about eco-anxiety - eco as in environment not economics. Read up on it. Get smarter. It's a real mental health challenge. The National Institute of Health and American Psychiatric Association web sites are good places to start.
BTW tax breaks for reducing your carbon footprint exist in the US already. Utilities get tax breaks by generating electricity from wind or solar farms. Households get tax breaks for solar panels and EVs. I suspect Canada does some of the same things.
I would bet big money that those overly stressed about climate change are leftwing supporters who glue themselves to the medias. Eco-anxiety is an induced fear of something that is assumed, economic anxiety is a known fear as it is happening now.
Well certainly people who are uninformed or deniers wouldn't be anxious about the climate emergency. Duh. Actually many who suffer from eco-anxiety are Gen Z'ers who will have to deal with the consequences of a warming planet when most of us are dust in the wind.
In Canada they are not tax breaks, these are subsidies which is a scam because they simply redistribute the wealth. They take someone else's earnings to give it to someone else that follow's the latest government narrative. There is no true income tax cut. Even getting an EV they simply give a subsidy, what they should do instead is cut someones income taxes for someone who owns an EV.

The purpose of the carbon tax is for the government to collect more revenue to fund their out of control spending spree. And they way the government is actively increasing the population by offering cash incentives (again they are trying to expand their taxbase to collect more revenue to fund their out of control spending spree), more people means more energy consumption no matter what. And for the umpteenth time, I never said climate change is not real, what I said many times is the government is scamming people and creating alarmism just to be able to add more taxes and restrictions.
There is no climate emergency, the government created an emergency to add more taxes. I never seen anyone with eco-anxiety, many are concerned about how they will pay for food and the rent, all problems created by far-left governments. GenZ'ers will be suffering the consequences of being poorer and dreaming to own a single detached home because of the government actively making them poorer by adding more taxes like the carbon tax and by making energy more expensive by adding more restrictions.
The warming of the planet is real and a worldwide emergency. Governments are not the problem for all the ills in the world.
Rishi Sunak, the conservative British Prime Minister, has decided to water down key green measures. He decision has defied the recommendations of the Climate Change Committee. His decision has been roundly condemned domestically and internationally. Sunak has held an anti-green agenda since his Conservative party's narrow victory. The Conservative party is presently deeply unpopular so expect these anti-green policies to be reversed by the next PM.
They have over two years to do their thing.
