Indies all have their own method for screening, and they don't always require a reference; some offer to screen with a deposit, or and ID even. It's usually written on their website, take your time to read it. My advice is to contact those who have a screening method you can provide and are comfortable with. Otherwise, I don't think agencies ask for references so it could be your solution.
I did offer a deposit but an id is a lot of information and with the world today you don’t know who to trust

As an older, embarrassingly out of shape man, I can't help hearing the little voice in my head that says the beautiful provider I'm with would rather be anywhere else than with me. I find it negatively affecting the experience. Can a provider actually enjoy their time with a man like me or are you just consummate actors? I know, this is a pathetic question but .....
Depends on the provider. But I'm sure there are some who don't need to pretend to have fun and just do.
