I think it is your choice to ask if a provider uses prep, but the only ones i would think to ask are the ones i would assume it is important for them to be... like the ones with the disease would want to ensure the provider is safe from them if anything happened.Given that with modern medicine it is very well possible to completely prevent the spread of HIV by use of the appropriate prophylactics along with Prep, is it inappropriate to ask a provider if he/she is using Prep? Also, just out of curiosity, I see a lot of providers mention that they are vaccinated for COVID but no one seems to mention whether or not they take Prep. That seems like it would be a favorable thing to mention.
Because no one really wants to handle medication side effects unless they have to, and not everyone can tolerate all medications. We get tested regularly and protect ourselves the best we can. But some measures are just too much to assume just because we see people we are protected every possible way.
Do you use it? just in case you might meet someone one day, and something happen that the meds are of use. And would you want to keep taking it if it makes you feel destabilized in some way from side effects?
It is safer to assume no one is taking it and treat all visits with safty in mind.
And medication coverage is often for treatment... anything preventative often comes out of our own pockets. Prep is too expensive for the off chance. And condoms are a much more affordable method of prevention... also adds to why asking for bb services is inappropriate as well.
