Downtown is perfect, I am taking public transit. Issue is HM has no internet on his phone, he had no means to communicate with anyone.

Yeah i understand its convenient but with no resevation dt on a friday night its almost impossible to find a spot :-(
We will have to try to plan something else sometime soon ... (fingers crossed)
You can't have someone coordinate this event without Internet and smartphone. Someone needed to step to the plate on this. Better leadership and communication is needed.
Some of you may remember that in July 2014 I rented an AirB in Old Montreal with a friend and we hosted a "pre GT mini GT" before one of Iggy's GTs. We didn't charge anyone anything to join us. We bought chips and crackers and some cheese and dips, as well as beer and a couple bottles of spirits.
We had some other mini GTs at one particular bar and restaurant on Crescent Street which is well suited for such an event.
This time of year a Friday at a local bar is only going to work if you make it around 4 or 5 pm. Otherwise Judy's idea of renting an AirBnB is the best option. As noted above it's been done. The condo I rented in Old Montreal was very well suited for that type of event. I don't remember the name of the complex, but it was very close to the Gay Village that part of Old Montreal. And really nice although it was a second floor walk up ranch. I could probably find the address on my AirBnB account if I can access it.
Exactly what I said. HM has no internet. There was no way to communicate or someone else who has internet should have taken over. And downtown is perfect no need to drive.
An Airbnb would work very well..... so long as we are all quiet and sensible adults
Cool. Whoever takes charge of the planning needs to have internet on their phone in order to be able to coordinate the event in case there are any last minute changes.
I do aknowledge my mistakes as i said but you need to realized this started as a "hey anyone wanna go have a beer and meet" kinda thing like i did with Jalimon and Detour a few years ago. It grew fast and time was limited. I already had to plan my comiccon, my travels both long distance and in Montreal.
I was meeting Judy in mid PM and was letting a spot open early evening if some specific providers would had been available (2 times in one day is not ideal, i prefer one, but on Saturday i was way too limited due to CC and needing to get back home right after and im not coming back in MTL until September at least).
And finally i knew i had to go to Longueuil + couldn't drink too much to be in shape for CC. Its only later i had offer by members to drive me. So yeah lots of things to consider.
Judy's idea of a Airbnb seem actually interesting if members are willing to contribute with a small deposit. And im always one for BYOB (bring your own beer).
If i retry at this it won't be CC weekend. It WILL be better planned.
So thanks for members who awknowledge i tried and situation just slip my control.

Can you wait until the weekend after as we may have more members who can make it and it would be nice to organize it in a way that alot of ladies can make it as well! Maybe even schedule this in 2-3 weeks to see who can show up and organize accordingly! Also some ladies do have their weeks already planned as much as some gentlemen have their trips and meetings planned! Why not make this big??? Who can help halloween Mike make this event one to remember??? Like the good old times? Any ideas? Then again my opinion doesn’t really matter but im putting it out there anyways!

i think HM was thinking about September. That might give us all time to organise and be ready. All of my August is not possible btw.

I’m a pretty good organizer in activities. I would be happy to lend my services for the next GT.
But as I don’t know you guys personally and never attended a GT in the pass I would need some help.
• what date would be the best?
• would this be a private event in a house or public event in a bar/restaurant?
• will there be a cover charge or will someone or couple people like to sponsor?
• will there be any SP that would attend?
• If it’s at a private location will there be a playroom?
If there’s any other suggestions I’m open. After getting these points cleared up I believe I’ll start a new thread also I have a cellular number that members can text me directly and yes I have data.

I can't really make 2 trips in Montreal in 2 weeks. Since i don't drive its complicated for me to even just "move", not even taking the financial aspect into consideration. But what i could do is plan ahead weeks in advance as you say for a different trip and either book someone super in advance (some do, some don't) or simply look at the weekly schedules of agencies or indies and then pick someone. I mean yes there is work arounds. And yes it would be better to be done on a weekend that there is "nothing big" in Montreal...
Now about putting up a huge party like the ones Iggy was doing back then... ouch... i don't know if i could mustard this myself. I wasn't as close to Iggy as some guys but close enough to know it was a LOT of work and planning. They were also multiple guys into it and some parties were also "sponsored" by agencies. What i do know is that toward the end it became a financial thing as well. Im not trying to undermine the work he did, cause again, as i said, it was tons of work, but Iggy did made money out of the parties... Thats why they became so big and so often and eventually it lead to issues and i think even police was involved. Iggy, Reverdy etc are not even on the board anymore (or at least active). Some issues definately happened. I don't want to have to deal with this.
But i like the idea of renting an airbnb or maybe even a "cabin" near a lake in summer, that could be pretty cool. Like a beach party?
Best to plan it during the week where it will be quieter. Much more options for pubs or bars. Wed / Thu evening.
GTs were done in different forms. The ones that was the most common was the bar/venue. The place would be reserved for "us", and the bar would make its money by selling alcohol. Of course it needed to be a significant group. Once a party was held in a private house of 3 floors and PERSONALLY that was my favorite because while the majority of the party was on the top floor with loud music and dancing etc, we could go around and just lay casually other places to have more "quiet spaces" to talk. There was even peoples sitting in the stairs. If you saw the parties in movies like American Pie, it was almost like this, wich i tought was super cool. That specific party also had room reserved for 30 minutes quickies with workers that wanted to work that evening (they had some kinda glowy stick around their neck).
Honestly, before actually making preparation for one, i think it would be best to gauge the respond of the SPs in general. Because they are the ones who would make the guys come (no pun intended) in bigger numbers.
The issue with this is some guys may not be too willing to come or have to go early... I mean peoples usually work in the week time..
Me I cannot go on weekends because I work every weekend. I can only during the week. Only these two weeks I can on weekends since I am on vacation.
