Une Professionnelle / Professional Woman (Euro term). Makes sense for naming the "oldest profession". It is a respectful and accurate term rather than "escorts".

Well that's a complicated question to answer. First of all people had specialized roles. We knew some were fishing and hunting and some were gathering plants.. then people became specialized in craftsmanship and some had a spiritual role in the community. Some were builders, etc.oooh what is the oldest profession?
In order for people to engage in prostitution you'd have to already have a type of economy similar to the one we have now. Not capitalism yet but a political and economic system that fosters inequality.
From what I gather in the ancient world there were women who offered "sacred sexual rites" in temples, but there were also women who were secular and basically doing what we do now, sans the internet. Many of them were slaves.

I'm pretty sensitive to language. I like WG too. SP is too clinical and somewhat subservient. SW is too direct. The other terms tend to be either too vulgar ("304") or too dressed up, suffering from the "classy ass" syndrome, trying to make something carnal into something refined ("courtesan")
There's a reason why the word courtesan exists tho.. but it can be perceived as problematic because it identifies a difference in classes of workers. And this isn't anything new.
Even before the 20th century, society had an easier time accepting women who were seen as "courtesans" meaning those who mingled with high society and even sometimes royalty etc compared to street prostitutes or girls who worked in brothels.
They were less easily identified. We see the same thing with the branding of "high end" escorts, how they interact with clients, their designer wear etc. There are still different classes of workers and that impacts what SWrs experience on the job.
It also has to do with a certain skill set and education. But this is also impacted by class...

That's also not historically accurate, les filles du roy were usually not prostitutes, and they also have nothing to do with the term "courtesan". "Courtesans" were independent women

If we're really going about taking the word "courtesan" in the first degree, I do believe I met one once. Performance-wise, it wasn't my proudest outing, but she made it up to me after with riveting conversation. We spent an additional hour jawing about all the sort of far-out stuff that Smitty has a penchant for: extaterrestrial lifeforms, angels, demons, how sex magick works, all that good tinfoil hat shit. I even learned the term "loosh" from her, the negative energy that the Archons spoken of in Gnosticism are supposed to feed on. I was actually taught something new, and I though I was the grand wizard here (for the more cultured readers, no, not THAT kind of wizard with the white hood ). An episode to remember.
