He was banned from Twitter for inciting violence. That's not the same as making jokes in a monologue about the President instead of openly grieving a white nationalist grifter. The Supreme Court has ruled that free speech doesn't extend to hate speech and speech that can lead to bodily harm (ie. yelling 'fire' in a crowded theatre). Even the sycophants are starting to realize that this is a bridge too far.

If you can't see the difference between that and jokes a comedian makes on stage, you're lost. If Obama called for the FCC to silence a critic the right would already be in their pickups headed for DC. In your heart you know it isn't right, but you're likely stuck in a spot where you feel some sort of sunk cost fallacy; you've invested and defended what's turning out to be plain-as-day fascism and now you feel too stuck to jump ship because it will have mean you're on the wrong side of history the whole time. Banning speech is never the answer. Trump may be an egotistical asshole but he loves his country in his own maniacal way.
Not all forms of speech are protected speech. Inciting violence for example. Trump was banned because he refused the election results and called on his supporters to fight back. Surprise, surprise - violence was the result. He should still be banned. If someone here called on all the Merbites to rise up and attack Plante, they would get banned and not allowed back. I don't think it's asking too much that Trump be held to the same standards.
Again Trump came within a few inches of being assassinated because the left was continually calling him a fasciste and comparing him to Hitler, but of course that was all ok and it wasn’t hate speech or instigating violence lol.
