Let's not forget that Ringo did have his own contributions to the Beatles for which he received sole songwriting credit, like Octopus's Garden which made their greatest hits albums (reportedly Harrison may have also cowritten this one, although he did not accept the credit, and I always assumed that this was due to the silliness of the song, and that he/The Beatles thought it best to let it be associated with Ringo, as Ringo was widely considered the silliest and least serious Beatle):

EB - I think George wrote "It Don't Come Easy" and "Back Off Boogaloo" and "Photograph" and probably most of "Octupus's Garden". Here is George's demo of "It Don't Come Easy", done so Ringo could learn the lyrics and the song. It sounds exactly like Ringo's version, except with swapped vocals.

One of my favorite John songs with great guitar by George:

George was at his peak 1969 - 1974. Not only with his own work, like "All Things Must Pass", but his guest work he did with Badfinger, John, Ringo, Clapton and Delaney and Bonnie.

Listening to George Harrison's version of "It Don't Come Easy" makes me realize the vocals are better on Ringo's version and support the supposition that generally a songwriter writes a song that is suitable for the lead vocalist. The classic songs that Harrison wrote with The Beatles like "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something" were songs that he sung and were written by George to be sung by himself. For these reasons I tend to agree that George was a contributor but not majority writer of "It Don't Come Easy." Possibly the same with Octopus's Garden, although it was an easy marketing decision to let Ringo have sole credit as fans were likely to associate the inherent silliness of the song with the silliest of the Beatles. Although it is a pretty good song. Of course one could also say that "I Am The Walrus" was one of the silliest songs written by John Lennon, yet it's a strong composition musically and over the years the lyrics have become wildly debated including by McCartney and the other Beatles themselves.

While we are on the subject of various Beatles contributing to the works of others and not accepting credit, there is the other notable example of "Fame", by David Bowie. I heard the song on channel 7 on Sirius the other day and it was mentioned that this song was a joint composition of John Lennon and David Bowie, who spent an afternoon commiserating about the loss of their anonymity. Although Lennon co-wrote the song and does the falsetto backing vocals that actually sound like a woman, he took no credit, perhaps because he wanted to remain anonymous, consistent with the inspiration for the song in the first place:

The Sirius DJ laughed about this and the Bowie-Lennon misery at their loss of anonymity, saying "dudes, it's because you were rock stars!"

If I put my college professor hat on I would say "Mr. Starkey , you claim to have written these three very successful songs with only a little help from your friend George. Yet without your friend George, you have written nothing close to this level of success before or after. Do you really expect me to believe you wrote the majority of these songs yourself?" If Ringo wrote most of the song, why would George have to do a demo for him so he could learn it? Also demos by their nature are not intended to be a finished product. They are a guide for the singer. If George was going to actually release the song, his vocal would be more polished. But I could be wrong. This is only my speculation. Only Ringo knows for sure now. I follow your college professor argument, but when I listen to "It Don't Come Easy" and "Octopus' Garden", I am not hearing what sounds like a George Harrison composition, except for the guitar parts in those songs. To me, those 2 songs do not sound like the other songs Harrison wrote. They sound different. This is why I am buying the theory that Ringo was a majority composer of both songs.

That's not their song, Nilsson wrote that song. Three Dog Night was just a cover band for songs written by other artists. Their lead singer still performs and was at Mohegan Sun a couple years ago performing with an oxygen tank strapped to his back from what he told the audience. My neighbor saw that show and told me about it. He said the unseen oxygen tank was revealed at the end of the show. Dude is in his late 70s and had health issues I guess.

Back Off Boogaloo - another song that originally only showed Ringo as the songwriter but later gave credit to George as co-writer. Many people believe this song to be an attack on Paul. These words do not sound like something Ringo would say about a friend, but I do believe George would say them about Paul. What do you think?

I had to check the timeline on when that song was actually written but it is consistent with a legal feud that Paul and Ringo had that caused them to not be on speaking terms in 1971 and 1972. We know this for a fact because both men were invited to Mick Jagger's wedding to Bianca Jagger which happened in 1971. The wedding planners, knowing of the feud, took great pains to have them at separate tables and not to be together at the event. There was an article I just read about this which I will post when I find it. Here it is:

By 1973 Paul and Ringo reconciled and Paul played on the Sweet 16 song. So the timeline of when this song was written is consistent with the Paul and Ringo feud and doesn't serve to prove Harrison authorship.

Basically all the Beatles had fights with each other at one time or another and mostly those fights were the fights of brothers and were resolved to some extent. None of those fights lingered or festered for long periods of time but that song was written during a fight period.
