Who the fuck knows with DJT? Ireland and Northern Ireland have lesser cases and all can be traced back, in other words they know where and who all their cases came from

NO-oooooo not Tom (Woody) Hanks....
Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson Test Positive for Coronavirus
https://variety.com/2020/film/news/tom-hanks-rita-wilson-coronavirus-1203531498/amp/
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have announced that they have tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus), the first celebrities to go public with a diagnosis.

Hanks and Wilson, both 63, revealed the news with a statement on Wednesday. The married couple was in Australia for production of Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley movie, in which Hanks is playing Presley’s iconic manager Colonel Tom Parker.

Read the statement below:

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

They both are 63....

Read the report that I posted. How about you start there. Yes, you are an alarmist. I see you in the global warming thread. Your ilk has been predicting Armageddon since the 1960's. first it was global cooling and then acid rain and then global warming and Florida was supposed to be under water by 12 years ago and now were all going to die from the flu.

Keep sticking your head in the sand.

i am not worried for healthy people of my age and younger (I am 50). But I understand now that the more of us who carry the virus (even young people), the more likely our senor citizens are to come into contact with it, which for them can be deadly, especially the fragile ones. I wonder how long before the numbers 'explode' in canada. So far we have been spared.

It’s the hospitalizations, Stupid

For all those clueless politicians out there (not just Trump), the fatality rate & panic caused by this coronavirus aren’t the most terrifying things because “IT’S THE HOSPITALIZATIONS, STUPID”.

This coronavirus is different from the flu because it specifically targets the lungs hence its very high 20% hospitalization rate. When this coronavirus spreads unchecked, too many patients who cannot breathe require hospitalizations at the same time. The hospitals get overwhelmed and literally break down.

When the hospitals break down, even minor conditions like infection, appendicitis, bone fracture can become serious or fatal because there aren’t enough resources to identify, treat the non-coronavirus cases. Essentially our world-class healthcare systems are degraded to poor developing world standards where easily treatable non-coronavirus conditions suddenly become fatal. Then we are all truly screwed!!!

It’s still manageable even if most of the population gets coronavirus ONLY IF the hospitalizations are spread out over a much much longer period of time.

That’s why SLOWING the spread is so important and all that starts with testing, identifying and isolating the contagious cases even if they r healthy and showing little symptoms. Otherwise it will spread rapidly through the population like wildfire and overwhelm the doctors, nurses, hospitals and crippling the entire healthcare system.

That’s why China and Italy were forced to lockdown its population because the coronavirus was spreading too quickly. Currently in some Italian hospitals, they r so overwhelmed that young patients w/ multiple severe conditions or those over 65 are just left to die if they go into cardiac arrest. It’s terribly demoralizing & scary for the doctors, nurses but what choice do they have?

Worse things probably happened or are happening in China & Iran but we’ll never know because of the media restrictions/blackout. Many doctors now fear that the US is several weeks away from becoming like China, Iran or Italy.

So when you see doctors giving grave, apocalyptic warnings about the coronavirus, don’t blame them for inciting panic because that panic is required to push our political leaders to take the necessary correct action. Right now, the real problem is indifference, not panic.

The flu affects the lungs as a secondary condition. The novel coronavirus goes straight for it hence the difference in hospitalization rate.

In many countries, they x-ray or ct scan the patients’ lungs to detect the novel coronavirus when they suspect false negatives.

Flu targets upper respiratory tract, Covid-19 is lower tract infection.

https://www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200310/know-the-symptoms-of-covid19

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/02/here-is-what-coronavirus-does-to-the-body/
This offers a quick preview. Follow the twitter accounts of the virologists for more detailed info.

i don’t give a fuck what web md says, whether it’s via a viral pneumonia, cytokine induced hyper-response or a secondary bacterial pneumonia, influenza does target lungs.

Covid-19 also in many cases can start off with upper respiratory tract symptoms. Started Off as the sniffles, can quickly cause someone to deteriorate, and has GI symptoms as well like the shits. That’s probably the whole reason why its propagating at such a rate, people have no idea they have it, a bit of a chameleon. They can even be asymptomatic basically and eating din din with granny.

hospitalization rates prob have a lil something to do with the fact that no one has any immunity to this as it’s a novel virus.

Ur reference to the presence of peripheral bilateral ground glass opacities on chest ct is not diagnostic for covid-19 and in other countries, so far.

I'm now retired and have worked in the health care field for 32 years. I was involved with health care decisions during the SARS & H2N1 years. Same thing with the Norwalk virus & various other flu bugs.

But this one is the REAL DEAL. This particualr virus does not discriminate. If you're white, black, yellow or whatever...it will do it's best to infect you. Whether you're 2, 5, 10, 30, 50 or 80......it will try to infect you. So far children have shown few symptoms, but they can still be carriers. At least 20% of people over 80 that have been infected end up dying. They're immune systems simply cannot cope. This virus tends to affect people 60 and over more than others. Same thing with people with pre-disposed illnesses. Including myself, a diabetic. We are in the most vulnerable group.

Since i was on the front lines during SARS & H1N1 i didn't think much of this at first. I honestly don't know a single person who was infected by either SARS or H1N1. But this particualr virus...now finally called a pandemic....is different. I heard last week that it's expected 40-70% of the entire global population will likely end up infected with COVID-19 by the end of the year. Today the head of the CDC told the US Senate that he expects most Americans will end up being infected by this virus within a year or two. This is big!!! The flu, which it is now....has a 0.1 mortality for those infected. COVID-19 currently has nearly a 3 perccent mortality rate for those infected. Numbers may differ. And as mentioned....people infected who are at least 80 years of age have nearly a 20% mortality rate....this is huge!!

It's huge because the numbers keep on increasing. And the big problem is that the Trump government literally was caught with its pants down and there are not enough testing kits available out there. THE VIRUS IS SPREADING MUCH FASTER THAN THE NUMBER OF KITS BEING AVAILABLE!!!!!

I didn't take this problem as serious as i should have a month ago. But i've changed my tune. I decided to do some research into the history of pandemics and i realized that there's no reason for similar global pandemics not to happen today. If you have time & want to learn.....google the 'Black Plague'....also known as the 'Bubonic Plague'. And then look up the 'Spanish Flu'. Millions and millions of people lost their lives due to these pandemics. If it happened then then there's no reason why it wouldn't happen today. Look it up!!!

I predict that this particular pandemic will likely be the biggest one in our lifetimes & millions on this planet will eventually end up dying!!! I hope i'm wrong....but i fear that i'm not!!!

March Madness will be played in empty arenas. The NBA season has been put on hold. Many other public events have been cancelled. Music concerts are being cancelled and NHL games will be played in empty arenas. Tom fucking Hanks and his wife have now been infected by COVID-19!!!!! What's next? The Montreal Grand Prix? The NHL Draft? The Jazzfest???? The Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup parade???? What's next???? God help us!

Everyone should read this. Now.

I was going to post this for Nature Boy to show how it's the hospitalizations that are equally crippling, along with the asymmetrical mortality by cohort/age.

Not sure why you’re being so rude & hostile. Feel free to disagree and post useful objective information.

Your point on Covid-19 & general lack of immunity is valid but so is the fact that it often begins & ends in the lungs. Lack of immunity is the general reason behind the large number of hospitalizations while Covid-19’s effects on lungs describes the mechanics.

It is a fact that doctors were using x-rays & ct-scans to diagnose Covid-19 patients in China. They were or still are literally waging a war there when speed is essential, it’s not medical school or drills involving purely academic discussions over there. In real life critical situations, often 80-90% is good enough.

oh I don’t deny that lack of ability for a health care system to keep up is crippling, I’ve been saying that when it was being implied that shit would ease up once it’s comes to 1st world countries that have better medical care, but look @ Italy. Spain is prob on its way to be next.

I just don’t agree with the whole influenza/covid-19 target organ stuff bushy was sayin
