This is it: Grand Prix week !

I don't know if you local guys are like me, but when it's the F1 Grand Prix week I "move over" and let the tourists take over the downtown strip clubs and SP agencies. I will go downtown and enjoy the view on the street (Crescent, Peel...) as there are plenty of lovely ladies walking around, but I just hate it when the strip clubs are packed, so I refrain from going to the popular downtown clubs and either go to Laval Clubs (Déesses) or even furthur north (St-Pierre). Same logic for agencies, I don't call as girls are booked solid and even if I managed to get the one I want, I can't get a room at the Chablis on St-Jacques as they are also booked solid .

Anyways, it's just one week per year, I get to enjoy the MTL gems for the other 51 weeks. So one word for you tourists out there: ENJOY !!! I'll be back next week

I'm comming in from Toronto for the race, and you Hotels in Montreal are doing a great job ripping off us tourists. You can't find a room for under $400 a night downtown with a 3 night minimum, even though most people are only there 2 nights. When I come in to Montreal to see the Leafs beat the Habs, that same room is $119 a night. At least I know I'll have fun. You guys in Montreal are lucky, you have the hotest ladies around. It's a good thing IN and Dangerous Curves are sending your ladies to us in toronto.

Very self serving of you..............however, your analysis is quite correct and since Celine's chief competition, Asservissante and DC, have not seen fit to raise their prices, there is no reason for Celine to do so. She may need to hire someone to answer phones though...........

I tried to book a room well in advance but the problem I ran into was that the hotels blocked off all the rooms so no one could book a room, then they opened up the rooms closer to the date of the event at a gross margin. The Hotels can do what ever they want, but I'm sure as hell not going to give those greedy bastards my money. I was able to rent an upscale furnished condo in downtown Montreal for the weekend for $360 . Which is a hell of a lot nicer than any of the hotels. So in my opinion there low life scum bags capatialising on the event, I have never seen a Hotel discount a room lower than there normal fee. It's a free enterprise world we live in, they can do what they want, and I also can complain and bitch as much as I want, but there are alternatives.

Slade, I don't agree that hotels are "ripping off" anyone. There is no law against raising prices for a week of peak room demand. It happens all over the world. And if Toronto had any world class events like the F1 GP, then Toronto hotel owners would raise prices too.

Also, if you had planned in advance (like me ), you could have had a very nice downtown hotel room for only $325 CDN per night.

There is no better system for allocating scarce resources than the price system and there is absolutely nothing wrong with raising rates during an event like GP. And if you think there is, then I'd ask: Do you complain when 3 and 4-star downtown rooms are sold for much lower prices during the many slower times of hotel demand?

Buddy, it's about time you start living in the present and not the past. now the Habs have an American owner, who not only dosn't like hockey, he knows nothing about it. He will become Montreals version of Harold Ballard. Toronto's love for the Leafs goes deaper than championships, were not as shallow as Hab fans. Only White Sox Fans, Cubs Fans, Black Hawks Fans can relate to our pain, but no longer the Red Sox fans. It's a damn good thing i don't live in chicago. Hab fans will soon feel the pain that we feel because it will be a hell of a long time before the Habs win the cup again. By the way, there is no hockey because of small market teams like Montreal......You people should try supporting your team financialy and not with your memories of the past.

Montreal is no small market team, when the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Curtis Joseph as a free agent in 1998 his salary increased by $3,200,000.00 or 139% (and he still hasn't won anything) maybe this is why there is no hockey this year.

Spin, your not showing me any statistics here, so I don't see how you think your proving any point. Show me numbers, not you writing down that Montreal was first in attendence. Also look at gate revenue, which is more important than attendence. Reds in Montreal are around $100, that same seat in toronto is $180. The revenue is not there, Molsons pulled out for a reason. SMALL MARKET. There are more exmontrealers living in Toronto, than you have people living in Montreal. All joking aside, Don't get me wrong Montreal is a great city, but it's a different sports market now than it was 15 or 20 years ago. The Expos are a good example, no corporate sponsors, and no local ownership, and local ownership is the key for the survival of any sports franchise today. Any Canadian would hate to see anything happen to the Habs, but the Habs survival is in the hands of the new CBA and a salary cap at or under 35 Million. Otherwise Montreal will be in the same situation as Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida, Nashville, Atlanta, and the rest of the lesser teams in the NHL, and you can say what you want, that is reality. No matter how bad one or both teams are, there is nothing better than a Leaf-Habs game. Leaf- Senators games are too predictable, Leafs always win the ones that count.

Molson pulled out for reasons having nothing to do with hockey, and yes we now have an American owner but so does Manchester United (and neither of us really want one).

I would love to get into this further, but this isn't the proper forum - I do agree with you though you can't beat a Canadians/Leafs game (hockeys version of Yankees/Red Sox). Have a great time here in Montreal this weekend enjoy the race, enjoy the food, enjoy the women!
