then you are not approaching them. You are sidling up to them. Terminology is important here and there's a different etiquette involved in sidling and both hand gestures and eye movements need to be adjusted to reflect that. You also forgot to differentiate between whether you were sidling up from either the dominant or submissive sides (typically right and left) because everyone knows what a gaffe it is to sidle up on the wrong side when using counter hand and eye movements.
