Both front and back lights are in auto mode on the car and bike not sure why people don't do that. On older bikes you could switch on and off the lights which was silly since it's mandatory to leave them on all the time. On most recent bikes they removed the option.

I didn't see a lot of people with their front lights turned off. Back lights are pretty common though.
