Ohhhh I am losing it…..

Back to topic.

Really miss the days of the mid market mom/pop gym. Now is either crap $15/$20 a month gyms or the +$200 a month “luxury” gym. The $60 to $80 gyms are practically gone.

I kind of miss going to the movie rental store and perusing all the VHS tapes to rent for a friday night.

My housemate and I just got a boombox so we can play all our old CDs which has been really fun though :)
I really miss VHS tapes.. I also miss movies that are actually shot on film.

I miss when you could go to a rave or a party and it was full of cool nerds and weirdos and not all these annoying rich kids pretending to be poor & social climbing.. I miss when it was easy to make friends in Montreal. I miss when people were actually into the arts and not just pretending to be for networking.

Because the subject of VHS tapes got brought up, slightly humorous experience that I've still kept alive in my memory all these years.

When I was still a teen, there were two video rental stores near my apartment. A Blockbuster (where I'd rent all my video games) and a local mom & pop store (no games). I had also gotten a membership at the more local one after noticing that they had a selection of Japanimation titles against a wall, I started out by renting all the Fatal Fury titles one by one. At one point, I also went out of my way to get the first and only porno tape I had ever bothered spending money on renting at 16 (why spend money when you can download bootleg clips off the World Wide Web, a kid growing up poor in a hood-ass neighborhood gotta hustle and become a computer whiz in a hurry), a Gina Lynn title called "Crazy About You" that I selected because it had Gina Lynn in it (the first pornstar that really made an impression on me; I just didn't get the hype around Jenna Jameson growing up, to me she was just another pretty face, but Gina Lynn was like the perfect woman in my eyes for a brief period). Anyway, I would finally get a new computer with high-speed internet later that summer, so renting anime (or porno) fell to the wayside as I could now download all of it far more efficiently than before (and without torturing my parents by keeping the phone line occupied).

But being in a wanderlust mood during that particularly pleasant summer, I was taking a stroll further down Cote-des-Neiges and decided to pop into yet another video rental store that I had not perused before. Nothing out of the ordinary at first glance but oh, guess what, they too had an area in the back separated by a curtain. "Hmm, I wonder if I can find something with Gina Lynn worth a damn", I pondered in my adolescent ignorance. Big mistake...that particular porno section was WAY more trashy and greasy than what the rental place closer to my house had, which seemed downright classy by contrast. Like...really low-class shit with golden showers and the like (hopefully not the downright obscene stuff with the scat and the poop but I wasn't motivated to stick around and find out). I was legitimately feeling physically uncomfortable, like "I need to get the fuck out of here ". So I did. And then what stands before me? What is this that my sore eyes witness after fleeing from behind the curtain? A small, discrete stand, with a half-dozen or so hentai titles. And I was like "My prayers have been answered! :D". It felt like I had escaped from Hell and stumbled upon Heaven. All I can remember vividly is that the New Angel titles were on offer, at least the third one in the series and I knew it was the third one because it had that redhead, and I had downloaded a clip of the redhead with the Made in France dub a year prior. And I thought to myself that if only I had the intuition to have wandered here earlier, I would've rented the shit out of the New Angel tapes at least, never mind Gina Lynn.
