US Citizen wishing I could move to Montreal

I've visited Montreal a few times and love it. The US and especially the state that I live in just doesn't live up to the hobby standards of Montreal.

Montreal is a 4 hour flight for me and there's a lot of money drained on hotels/airbnbs for trips. I think that having my own place would make it easier to have a second base in Montreal. I've tried to crunch the numbers on buying a condo as a vacation rental and putting it on AirBnB in between my visits but it would be a net negative financially. Not to mention all the hurdles of not being a Canadian citizen, AirBnB restrictions, getting a bank account as a foreigner, etc.

I've also thought about getting a job in Montreal to help get me a visa and relocate, but it could be very challenging as well. The job market in my field is very tight right now with all of the complications going on in North America. I also don't speak any French. I don't know how much of a benefit it is to recruit a US person into Montreal in my field.

As it is, I'm going to have to decrease my visits to Montreal due to the economy and geopolitical tensions.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could increase my hobby lifestyle in Montreal? Should I just stick to a few visits per year?

What do mean by increasing your hobby lifestyle? Is it seeing more people in a define amount of time? Optimizing your cost when coming here?

Do you have "needs" in a every amount of time? Are you flexible with your current work to come here for a long duration?

In a perfect world I would see MTL agency girls for a few hours once per week or once every other week. I don't have an equivalent experience where I am currently. Optimizing time and costs is also a factor.

I can only visit MTL for about a week at a time a few times per year. Since I'm only here a week I try to fit in as many visits as possible. It's like a marathon week. I would rather be able to make it more of a lifestyle.

I feel you Montreal has better women going at a lesser rate but like you said yourself with everything going on rn its extremely difficult you might have to stick to a few visits a year.

In your situation the best thing you could find is a US job where you have to regularly travel to Mtl for work reasons. That way your employer covers the travel and lodging and then you can partake.

But I'll tell you this.. traveling for work gets very old very fast.

I think it depends on where in the US you live, but point is well taken. NYC/NJ area isn’t bad, but even places like Florida and CA are awful. I think it goes beyond LE. Culture, entitlement and SA really have an impact

I love kitesurfing. In this sport, people travel to experience the pleasure of different beaches.
But crossing the border several times a year for such a hobby can lead to a painful and harmful addiction.

Best to find some other hobby and indulge in escorts when you are on vacation. To move to Montreal you got to learn French. No French = No job besides driving Uber. Legault is cracking down hard on those that do not speak French especially the newcomers. Bill 96 will apply to you to the max.. Healthcare in Canada sucks and Quebec is among the worst for healthcare. You will not find any family doctor for years. Prepare to wait a long time to see a doctor. If you got anything to check or surgeries you will wait a very long time. Very high taxes here, Quebec has the highest taxes in Canada but not much service to show for. The weather sucks here compared to the southern US, Canada sucks for products. There are many rare and vintage items I want to buy and Canada is barren. US has so much availability for various products especially rare and vintage items. US rules for shopping. Besides stripclubs and escorts, there is not so much to move her for. Also, US companies almost always pay much better and consider the exchange rate. You earn US dollars and with the exchange rate it is very favorable to you but you loose that advantage once you earn Canadian dollars.

What's available in NYC/NJ? All I see are astronomically priced indies ($600 USD/hr + minimum) who have more onerous 'screening' requirements than even some government jobs with security clearances. Most new or occasional hobbyists aren't going to be able to muster up the 2 or 3 references from reputable providers in the past 6 months which is the standard. The other alternative is providing personal identifying information, often a selfie with government issued ID plus employment information, which would be considered insane anywhere else in the world.

Even if you get past the screening hurdle, theres no guarantee of a good service outside of a few select well reviewed (also $$$$) providers. Way too much risk of outright scams and varying degrees of unsatisfying encounters.

The few reputable agencies are so elusive they might as well be secret societies. Very limited openings for new clients even those willing to give up their personal identifying information.

Many years ago I was considering buying a condo in the downtown area. Real estate was much cheaper before COVID but I’m glad I never did it. Mostly because of the COVID restrictions preventing US citizens from crossing the border. But if I was to consider something like this again I would buy a place near the Canadian border in Vermont or NY and just cross over when the urge hit me.

you dont metion how old you are, nor what field you are in, but you if you are still in 20s, you could go back to school for a masters or something. Student visas are not that hard to get., Then you get job and you stay

No idea how portable your job is, but isn't the obvious play here to move within the US to somewhere much more convenient to Montreal? The NYC metro area including the bedroom communities in CT and NJ gives you access to 1 hour flights to MTL, or if you're really committed to this idea, parts of Vermont have short drives over the border. Seems a lot less hassle than trying to navigate the immigration laws/language requirements/getting work visas/finding employment as a foreigner/etc.

I don’t know where you’re looking but I’ve never paid $600/hr, and I’ve rarely used Indies. There are good agencies in NJ and a couple fairly good ones in NYC for $350-$450/hr. Screening is a requirement, that’s just how it goes.
