I've stayed at both the Nelligan and Place d'Armes - no complaints with either - and just booked the St. Sulpice for an upcoming visit, but think I will re-book at The Nelligan after reading this thread . . . :o

JC - I was in Montreal for the first time last fall and did take a few French lessons before my trip. While not necessary, it is a nice touch to be able to greet a girl with a 'Bon soir' and to know some basic phrases. Most will compliment your attempt at speaking French, some may playfully...
