This is true but in case if they want to persecute they can file it as an indictable offense which has no statute of limitation. Obviously they do it only when evidence is full proof.
Unless you are the prime minister, I highly doubt any competent prosecutor would move to Indict a regular Joe, moving to trial without preliminary hearing, without establishing burdon of proof and making it a public case. Not to talk about the tax payers money that would be involved.
To witch the defence would delight in dismantling it. Even if you agree to something over the phone, over the text, there is always things you can do or say to defend it. And you are innocent until prooven guity beyond any resonable doubt.
