According to this article, there's a growing sentiment in Alberta wanting from separation from Canada, especially after the election day's results.

Even Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is voicing those sentiments! stating alienation from Ottawa!

I have heard that Canada/Carney has proposed several state trades for Alberta, including one of Alaska, or Washington or Minnesota straight up for Alberta. I would probably do Alaska or Washington, but not Minnesota, as we are not ready to give up the Vikings to Canada.

Not surprised by this. Canada is very divided and this wanting to separate is proof of that. Both parties got over 40% of the votes. Alberta is not being representated by the LIberal government. They have their own unique set of needs like Quebec does. Having said that, I concur with Gaby that the separation will never happen. Alberta is on treaty land so it would require First Nations approval and only 30% want to leave + there is Federal land there also. Danielle Smith must know this? Maybe she is using this as a way to leverage the Federal government to get things for Alberta?

I don't think "separation" is the correct legal or political term. I think it is "secession", which is a withdrawal from a formal sovereign political entity.

Secession has happened in the United States. It caused the Civil War. It started with South Carolina and then many other states. Here is the history:

The declaration stated, in part, "A geographical line has been drawn across the Union, and all the States north of that line have united in the election of a man to the high office of President of the United States, whose opinions and purposes are hostile to slavery."

The man referred to in the Declaration is Abraham Lincoln, who believed slavery should be abolished and later did so with the Emancipation Proclamation.
